The Davoren effect maybe?September Zeros wrote:That's the notable thing this year. Inconsistency aside we have been running out 4 qtrs better than the past 2 years IMOAN_Inkling wrote:I agree that we got a bit lucky. The perfect link up play and ball movement isn't there yet. The endeavour and the system is though and that's all I ask for at this stage. We're not as good as the Roos and they showed us up for pace and execution early. With hard work we were able to bring that back and with some good fortune were able to put plenty on the scoreboard.swoop42 wrote:Great win in the end but don't fool yourself that the 3rd quarter said more about the team than that ordinary first half.
The truth is somewhere in between and we had lady luck on our side in the end.
We have much work to do.
Our games against top 8 teams shows that we're not there yet. In each one we've been blown out of the water early, promisingly we've fought on for the four quarters, and this time we were able to spring a win.

I think Maxy's interview with Ben Hart at 3/4 time says it all (we went back to basics and tried to make it more contested). Basically what always happens with the hand pass happy gameplan goes to peices.. "Boys kick it long to a contest and pressure like crazy"... If 2015 game plan fails the coaches just fall back on a more 2010/11/12 style

He still had to be in the right place, mark it and kick it. But don't let me get in the way of more brown and Blair bashing.Krakouer Magic wrote:Exactly. Fasolo's work to rove one touch (something Blair struggles to do), shake a tackle and put it on the boot into blairs lap was what set up the sealer blair ended up kicking.swoop42 wrote:I think Elliott and quite a few others had more to do with our win than Blair.September Zeros wrote:So Blair kicks a sealer and brown saves a goal with with superior judgement.
Just saying.....you know who you are
But whatever floats your boat.
I'll take Kennedy.
News flash- he ain't the greatest.....but he ain't the worst.
No Pressure, No Diamonds
They used to be a happy team at hawthorn.

Well done Pies. Stood up when it counted and never gave in when all seemed lost at half time. Credit where credit's due because was a first half to forget. The team galvanised together and really lifted in the second half. Took possession more, won contests, applied constant pressure, ran and used the ball better. Even in the last quarter when things got tight we still hung in there ground out the win.

Awesome win, only saw the 2nd half and a 13 goal to 4 thrashing of North is what I expect us to do, don't know what happened in the 1st half then!
Best bit was I reckon we kicked 13.1, the other 6 behinds after half time were all rushed, amazing accuracy for a team renowned for shit kicking and as said earlier, North kicked themselves out of the game missing some very easy and crucial goals in the 2nd half.
I think the real key is we have the right balance in the forward line now, White at least makes a contest when he doesn't mark it, Clokey up high with Fasolo, Elliott and Blair roving around and the resting midfielder.
Backline is a little undersized for dealing with tall forwards but they provide great run
Rucking by Grundy was great even if a few taps go nowhere, Witts struggled in the wet, in the 3rd especially Crisp was sensational!
Great win, no negatives from the 2nd half!
