Good win.
Some very good efforts by a number of players.
Love the way Marley never gives up even though
he is not the most talented player. On the game day thread
I mentioned whether Broomy will make it.
Of course, the usual guard dogs jumped down my throat.
A big hello to Jackcass!
His ( Broomy) 2nd half was very poor.
I just wonder whether playing him mainly as a small forward
is the right way to go.
He got 41 possies last week in the VFL as a midfielder.
I don't think he will make it by playing his first 50 games as
a forward.
I know he lacks strength but I think it is the midfield or nothing.

Nah, his game was mostly good because of Cloke. Roos couldn't man him up or they'd have to leave Cloke one out, can't give best on ground to a bloke who didn't have an opponent.David wrote:I know it's almost certainly Cloke's, but would love Oxley to get the medal. Hard to believe it's only his 12th game.

Melbourne was so insipid in the first quarter that they'd bored us to a stop. They had a crack in the second and third quarter but in the fourth they were playing like a team that was trying not to lose rather than a team playing to win. In the end we scunged out a win. Hopefully we'll win next week and go to the break in the top four.
One sour note though, I thought the Pie's supporters were a bit flat today. They failed to say TOOOVES every time Toovey got the ball. And poor old SEEED and BROOOM didn't get a look in.

Just had a look at the Supercoach points and thought Sidey and Swan did a lot better than their points suggest. They both had some important touches.
Same old issue hit the pies - lapses in concentration leading to goal flurries against us. Though I am pleased that Buckley makes the necessary changes a lot quicker than Malty used to. Feel that was a real win for Bucks when the personnel were heavily challenged by an at times irresistible Melbourne midfield.
All in all, great game by Cloke and Oxley, they won it for us at either end. I tips my lid to Frost and Brown as well.

Too busy booing Lumumba instead. A football spectator can only manage so many "ooo" sounds.Dangles wrote:Melbourne was so insipid in the first quarter that they'd bored us to a stop. The myth of the bullshit games is only exceeded by the reality of the bullshit and traitorous posters who relish in Magpie losses.AN_Inkling wrote:Except if we beat the Giants then that counts as a BS game too, just like Essendon and North Melbourne .What'sinaname wrote:The bullshit games are over, now we start playing real teams.
Be patient thomsoc, 41 is the reserves is great but he's got to learn his craft for afl. I'm happy for him to play "out of position" and learn to play for the team structure.thompsoc wrote:Good win.

May I ask who you would take out of the midfield to give him a midfield role?

Listened to the game on MMM radio.David wrote:I know it's almost certainly Cloke's, but would love Oxley to get the medal. Hard to believe it's only his 12th game.
Lyon and Bradshaw kept pointing out that when Oxley was the spare man in defense, Melbourne's stopped scoring goals.
As soon as Oxley was made accountable with a player, Melbourne would get their goals happening.
Also Oxley had Shaw level intercept mark numbers. Great to see.
They couldn't believe Oxley was allowed to be unmarked for most of the game.

Fair enough. Speaking of Lumumba I loved the cheeky goal that Elliott kicked on him.David wrote:Too busy booing Lumumba instead. It was a difficult one. Melbourne put a spare back to stop Cloke's dominance after the first. This worked and curbed his influence, but Oxley had a big impact as the spare at the other end. How many would Cloke have kicked without the extra man back?stoliboy wrote: They couldn't believe Oxley was allowed to be unmarked for most of the game.
