What a shame!
Merv was a throughly decent bloke. I remember him sitting quietly next to me at a party at my brother's place one night over a beer or two and yarning on for ages while most of his teammates got really pissed and played loud, stupid party games that weren't even funny. Merv, he just told his mates to settle down, grabbed another beer, sat back and took it easy.
Top bloke. He would have had a lot of friends.

His son Jay was at Essendon, so it's going to hit the whole team hard

That's terribly sad to hear. Condolences to his family.

A good player by any standards. Tragic news, like all road fatalties. Condolences to all concerned for Merv.

A big loss for the Bomber faithful.
Their equivalent to Pants. One tough hombre who could really play as well.
Used to love watching him play.

Twitter & BigFilthy saying that the great man passed away this morning
Heard on 3AW just before 8:30 on Ross & John saying that a "Famous Victorian" had just died and they would not name them until the family announced it
Sad day it seems, but he lived a great life
<Mods' note: original thread title was "RIP Lou?". This is why no-one should ever believe what they read on BigFooty!>

So, if I start bagging the Blooz in this thread, will it get moved out of General Discussion?
