Let's be blunt, jackcass - Tooves wasn't bad against Rioli particularly, he was bad against everyone tonight. I think he's playing with an injury (he seems to be slower over the last couple of matches than he was earlier in the season) but there's no getting away from the fact that (whatever the reason) his game stank tonight. I'd really rather they gave Marsh a shot and let Toovey have a chance to get his body right - there's a bit of a question about Marsh's disposal on occasion but he kicks the ball way further than Toovey and he's no less accurate than Toovey's been in recent games.jackcass wrote:2 free kicks gifted by players other than his opponent, kicked another against Langdon, another against Toovey, another against Williams. So close you can taste it.Mugwump wrote:Yes, indeed, that sums it up really well. We're a football side to be feared. Even good sides have bad kicking days and lose against quality opposition. that's what just happened. But, in truth, I think we're nearly there. By the end of this year we might even shake the earth in the finals.jackcass wrote:Stands and applauds!AN_Inkling wrote:Positives >>>>>>>>>>> negatives in that game.
Focus on the inaccurate kicking and the loss of the game if you want. The real story from this game is that we were better than the Hawks. We didn't just hang on or get lucky, we convincingly outplayed them both in close and even with our ball use. We are a top 4 chance and with continued improvement some chance of going all the way. This was one of the best performances we've had in the last 4 years, hands down.
This following on from last week when we outplayed the Dockers for almost the entire game. We're not expected to be this good yet and with a young team we will be even better by year's end, who knows how far we can take it.
I'm excited!

I'm pretty sure that Toovey was his direct opponent unless he was allowed to roam free all night without one... He should have been contained and never allowed so much freedom and opportunity. Someone, anyone, I don't care, should have shut down his influence.jackcass wrote:2 free kicks gifted by players other than his opponent, kicked another against Langdon, another against Toovey, another against Williams. Umpires were good tonight, only 1 glaring mistake for them (Rioli high tackle in the 2nd) and 1 for us (Blair in the last although you could argue front on contact it was soft).derkd wrote:simon tonna wrote:why did the scumbags swallow the whistle when there were blatant frees for Collingwood? in that it was going to get mighty ugly fir us.
The scumbags were out of there league tonight and whorethorn lead them on a merry dance. I guess Collingwood play fare and the rest will be better of for it.
See i don't get people who blame umpires, unwilling to accept that their side was beaten by a better team. I am willing to accept that Hawks just found a way. They kicked the goals we missed. Does this mean we are doomed? nope, we learn from it, move on to next week.
Does it mean we make changes? ... probably, I (like a few) feel Buckley maybe made a mistake playing two first gamers tonight, maybe needed just that extra experienced body against a side like Hawthorn...would that have won us the game? who knows. But like i said before, if someone had said to you tonight that Collingwood would play their best match against Hawthorn in almost fours years woule you have taken it? ...beat getting pants by 10 goals.
It was his worse game stat wise for the season and his tackle count is down this last month.Pies4shaw wrote:Let's be blunt, jackcass - Tooves wasn't bad against Rioli particularly, he was bad against everyone tonight. Attacked every contest he was apart of and created space for team mates to take marks. When he didn't mark it himself, he brought the ball to ground which allowed his team mates to crumb. He even tries to mark with two hands as opposed to one hand White. He'll be a great player. Reads the ball well and could well produce something special next week away from the pressure of the mcg and first game status.jackcass wrote:Yep, telling 4 possession 1 point game.WarrenerraW wrote:Moore deserves to hold his spot next week I reckon.

And tonight was only his 50th game, still lots of improvement in him.swoop42 wrote:You might be one of the few.Pies4shaw wrote:I agree that Toovey was dreadful but beware of getting excited by Williams' stats - on many occasions tonight his ball-handling was poor and his skill errors were as damaging in their own way as the misses up forward. Great trier but I'm still concerned that he lacks the close ball-control required to be a top-class small defender.swoop42 wrote: Williams 27 touches.
Toovey 6 possessions, Rioli 5 goals.
Williams is in great form.
Used the ball at 77%.

Team defense. Players are expected to cover for each other. They pick up another players opponent they become responsible for them. 6 disposals for a lock down defender might be low but he did his job. Watch the replay.swoop42 wrote:He was Toovey's opponent though.jackcass wrote:2 free kicks gifted by players other than his opponent, kicked another against Langdon, another against Toovey, another against Williams. The others were just covering for him.
6 possessions isn't enough either.
Brown a key defender had 14.

loss is a loss is a loss......
We could be a 10 goal better side and find a way to lose to this mob....
losses over the next 2-3 weeks which i'm pretty sure will occur now, will put us right back where we thought we might be.
young teams that find a way to win excite me....not young battlers who might be there one day.....
1 more hawthorn game...1 more loss...

they did play music during the breaks but it wasn't blaring. they also did the emirates comp at half time.Brenny wrote:Walsh stuff aside for one second, if I may.
At the breaks during todays game... no music... no random talking... no nothing...
