#27, #7 Ben Kennedy

One of the differences between Carlton and ourselves is that we don't burn our own when they don't have instant success.

Ben Kennedy made a few howlers today but did a few nice things as well. Most players need weeks at senior level to start to feel at home there, building confidence, composure, instinct and fluency, and to show what they can really do.

I really hope we give Benny a few more weeks to find his feet before we judge how influential he can be.

The only thing he hasn't had is a sustained run at it like others. Hopefully he can and we get our answer!

Mugs, it's fine and dandy to say BK made "a few howlers today...", problem was many resulted in turn-overs to the bull-flogs which resulted in goals.
It just undoes the good work of the blokes busting their arses to get the pill forward to have it surrendered by ineptitude and/or panic...

I'll have another look at the game when The Bat puts the files up for download, although I don't expect to chance my opinion...

He had a poor one, everyone does.

He doesn't have the rhythm of what our 1's do yet(i don't blame him, i got NFI what bux is aiming for us to do at times)

The step from 2's to 1's can be huge, but not always for the reasons people think, you are often actually afforded more time and space in senior football than in the reserve's, people will tell you 1's is quicker....it is, but not athletically, more mentally, players make better quicker decisions the higher up you move putting you out of sync and this can throw your read right out, esp if you are instinctive, which has a detrimental effect on confidence and thus skill performance.
Benken has however as KM rightly pointed out shown that he can catch the pace of senior football before and he still shows glimpses even while faltering

He will be just fine given time....actually he will be a whole lot better than just fine.
we expect far to much from youngsters in modern football, stats show time and time again seasoned lists win when it counts...it's why i've always had an issue with the dismantling of our premiership side and subsequent rebuild on the run program.....

It takes a long time to build seasoned lists given list turnover these days.

If you can't kick and can't hit a3 m handball at AFL level then you are not up to it. Oxley had a bad day. Kennedy is not up to it. Delist

Certainly more relevant here than the game analysis thread......
King Monkey wrote:Kennedy needs continuity with his body/health which has come over the last few months, and now some continuity in the Seniors.

All you clowns calling him a spud, give yourselves an uppercut, and stay down for the count.

None of you remember his display as sub against Gold Coast late last season?? If Clinton Young keeps his eyes open for 0.03 sec longer, Kennedy wins that game for Collingwood off his own boot!
How many others in our side drill that pass to Greenwood today in the second quarter??

Unbelievable how quickly some turn......

Ill also add in response to DT - Kennedy will have a better AFL career than Oxley long term.

Levi had 5 clangers aswell....
Pendles had 4...
Varcoe only went at 57% disp eff...kennedy went at 50....

That was today...if we delist every footballer that has a howler in their first few seasons our average age will be 20 and our oldest plyer will be 22.....

Delist...good idea...real thinker you are.

If you cannot spot up a target from 3 metres, then no, you have NO BUSINESS being on an AFL field, end of argument, my good sir.

Was critical of him today but needs to be given 4 games of game time to prove himself. Bit hard when he comes of being the sub all the time

Too small and light to play midfield. Too slow and not skilful enough to play forward at AFL level. As a 170 metre odd player you need to have skill or be above average pace

Do not normally do this but this kid is not up to it (yet)
Can not kick 40m
Panics in tight
Sloppy disposal

Had a fair time now and Broomhead and Grundy well in front. But his errors tonight were pivotal and would be very surprised we see him next week or maybe even again.
But I am no judge as I am critical of Sidey too.... Silky skills but need him to make quicker decisions with ball and put body on line without it.
