This is worse than the Frawley situation last year. How on earth is Carlton deserving of pick 2?thebaldfacts wrote:According to the Herald Sun, Pies have entered the race for Kreuzer. Will be subject to medical.
Also Hawks, Tigers and doggies also circling, so could be a bidding war.
Pick 2 to Blues as well it seems.
Sorry can't post link due to paywall. Will be on news.com at some point.
Still subject to a salary cap audit. They might not get # 1 or # 2 yet.BucksIsFutureCoach wrote:This is worse than the Frawley situation last year. Sam Reid has a contract at Sydney and is happy forging his own career in Sydney. Will not consider moving at this stage of his career.jackcass wrote:Spreading Witts a bit thin but hard to argue that's not good value.inxs88 wrote:I would do any of the above. Not that I don't see upside in Witts but one characteristic that is obvious with Jarrod since he started is he "doesn't want to hurt/kill" his opponents. Players of a commensurate body shape/size like Mumford have this trait and Jarrod strikes me as a less talented Wes Fellowes circa 1986.swoop42 wrote:You've overlooked the part where we draft a ruck choice for nothing in terms of F/A or a cheap alternative via the draft.
With no Witts again this week I'm starting to think he could already be earmarked for trade should the right deal present itself or has already done so.
Witts part of the Treloar deal.
Witts for Carlisle.
Witts for a top 15 pick.
Witts for S.Reid.
The Sam Reid trade makes some sense: unite with his brother, he can swing back or forward and is still young enough with a better attitude than Carlisle
Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!

Being surrounded by feral Scum fans in their old zone of Bendigo, I have had quite a few tell me today that they hope we get Kreuzer. They see it as payback for giving them a dud in Daisy Thomas!!stoliboy wrote:I think we should stay miles away from any Carlton players.
A look back at who we've picked up from Carlton since 1991 isn't pretty reading:
1991 - Fraser Murphy - Played 0 games for Collingwood
1992 - Ross Johns - Played 0 games for Collingwood
1996 - Brett Warburton - Played 0 games for Collingwood
2007 - Chris Bryan - Played 30 games for Collingwood
2012 - Jordan Russell - Played 9 games for Collingwood
Chris Bryan is the only player I enjoyed seeing playing in the black n white.

they're not but free agency is hardly a fair system.BucksIsFutureCoach wrote:This is worse than the Frawley situation last year. How on earth is Carlton deserving of pick 2?thebaldfacts wrote:According to the Herald Sun, Pies have entered the race for Kreuzer. Will be subject to medical.

Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle.
Not in my opinion.Deja Vu wrote:If we're going after this broken down hack it means we've lost out on Treloar.
You don't lose the amount of experience we have off our list and not have ample salary cap left to make a play for multiple players.
Young most likely will be delisted so that's roughly another $400,000 opened up.

If you feel that our premiership window opens from 2017 onwards (with a sneaky chance of top 6 next season) then obtaining a ruckman who'll be turning 27 in May next year and presumably smack bang at the beginning of there prime years does make some sense.
Having two young rucks of similar age and developing as ruck options along a comparable timeline has it's problems with one likely to end up spending considerable time in the VFL. Realistically neither will be a dominant ruck until season 2018 at the earliest after our window has opened.
No doubt we never envisaged Grundy falling into our lap at pick 18 with Witts very much seen as our long term ruck prospect at the time.
I believe the club has also been genuinely stunned by the rapid development of Cox this season.
Both of those players make the notion of trading Witts for something of value a possibility.
Of course the risk in obtaining Kreuzer is real with genuine question marks surrounding his body holding up into the future.
Then there is the issue of what he would cost.
He isn't worth more than $450,000 a year IMHO. $500,000 max only if a suitable trade for Witts is found.
Whether or not that figure would be enough or he's even worth the risk at any cost is up for debate.
