You'd think Kennedy's worth would be somewhere in the 30s to 40s at best, given that he hasn't played a lot of senior footy. We can't get more than that out of a player we've so rarely given a senior spot. We've set his worth by not playing him despite giving opportunities to many other young players. Only chance of better would be if more than one club were bidding and I don't think that's the case. He is in contract though so we get to drive a hard bargain.
Well done boys!

I see a lot of potential in Kennedy. Just have this feeling that given another year we can at least improve his marketability if not gain something in a player.
Pick 18 for Kennedy is not the biggest bust of the 2012 draft.
Pick 17 for Freo - Simpson, 2 games and delisted.
Pick 35 for Carlton - Temay, 0 games and delisted.
Pick 47 for North - Wilkins, 0 games and delisted.
Pick 51 for Bombers - Van Unen, 0 games and delisted.
Quickest to get up to AFL speed: Vlastuin (Richmond pick 9, 61 games), Viney (49 games, pick 26, father son), Wines (Port, pick 7, 62 games).
Picks after the SA trifecta:
21. Hrovat (Bulldogs)
22. Towers (Swans)
23. Paparone (Lions)
24. Wright (Saints)
25. White (Saints)
26. Viney (F/S)
27. Stewart (GWS)
28. O'Brien (Hawks)
29. Clurey (Port)
30. Shaw (Port)
31. McIntosh (Tigers)
32. Close (Lions)
33. McBean (Tigers)
34. Ashby (Bombers)
35. Temay (Blues)
36. Smith (Freo)
37. Jacobs (North)
38. Ramsay (Pies)
39. Duffy (Freo) - recently delisted
... Pick 61. Hutchings (WCE)
In hindsight I doubt there are many better viable midfield/small forward options from that draft. Below pick 18 I wouldn't have minded Hutchings (despite his GF performance) or McIntosh, both of whom had break-out years.

It's looking as if we'll get more than Seedsman is worth due to multiple clubs being interested. Second rounder, maybe even an early one. Freeman should get a second rounder, anything worse is a terrible outcome. Kennedy is unlikely to get better than a third round pick, but if Melbourne's keen we can play hardball as he is contracted.
Well done boys!

If we get anything other than a second round (or first round!) pick for Freeman or Kennedy, we have been Royally screwed.AN_Inkling wrote:It's looking as if we'll get more than Seedsman is worth due to multiple clubs being interested. Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!
Greenwood only cost us pick 25 and he came 2nd in his clubs B&F for the year.AN_Inkling wrote:It's looking as if we'll get more than Seedsman is worth due to multiple clubs being interested. No way I see Melbourne willing to part with a pick in the low 20's for Kennedy.
At best a 3rd round pick or he'll be used to offset the cost for Howe should he nominate us.
Personally I'd rather keep Kennedy than accept a 3rd rd pick.
I certainly wouldn't want a 3rd rd pick this year in a shallow draft.
As you say if we end up getting pick 22 from GCS for Seedsman then I consider this a big win and much more than what we were initially expecting.
The club wont accept anything less than the saints 2nd rounder for Freeman.
Whether that be this year or next might be the sticking point.

O'Rourke was taken pick 2, Kennedy at 19. O'Rourke had been 2 years in the system and played 8 games in his last year. Kennedy's had 3 years and played 5 in his last year without any significant injuries.themonk wrote:Compare him to O'Rourke, Kennedy has shown more than him and Hawthorn picked him up with their 1st round pick last year.
Melbourne rated this kid so a 2nd round is definitely the minimum.
Having only played him for 5 games in 2015, we clearly don't rate Kennedy very highly and could not convince another club that we do. A second round pick would be an ambitious target.
To use your comparison: O'Rourke was downgraded 17 places. If we downgrade Kennedy similarly, we'd take pick 36. That's getting close to the ball park.
Well done boys!
