So what would it change if they had no direct contact with anyone from ISIS and acted totally alone in accordance what their perspective of ISIS ideologies?

Does that make it less a terrorist act? Are the people any less dead?

It's still a religious based act of terror whether they were copying ISIS, read the gideon bible while on acid and decided to act it out or the great pumpkin told them to.

Yes, it might well make it less of a terrorist act. We don't know enough to classify it as such yet. Unless of course you consider all mass shootings terror attacks. What exactly constitutes one? Was the Christian Planned Parenthood shooting the other day an act of terror?

ISIS doesn't need to have planned and ordered an attack, if it's done independently but in the name of ISIS by people who share the same beliefs as ISIS expounds, the intent is the same so it's still a terrorist action.

Was the Christian Planned parenthood shooting the other day done in the name of any known terrorist organisation who would endorse that kind of action?

If not, then it wasn't.
