Post by PJ »

It seems that if Collingwood turned the ball over anywhere on the ground, there were always Hawthorn players ahead of play all by themselves. I understand situations such as Nick Davis running off his man on the half back flank, and yes he kicked 2 first quarter goals, yet so did his oppponent. I'm unsure that the new Collingwood game plan is working. It seems to be that they where a much better team when there was an open forward line for tarrant to lead into. I would like to also raise a question?? What do u think if Collingwood put Molloy in the middle to help Collingwood with centre clearances?? I believe Molloy would give Collingwood a bit of extra "grunt" in the midfield. What are your thoughts??

When you try and create run and the ball is turned over, there will always be players loose, because initially Collingwood players are running off their opponents to create an option, but then the Hawks are all alone so they are able to rebound. And if this keeps occurring, the players are then discouraged to create an option, which then results in a the forward thrusts being slow/stagnant.

With regard to your suggestion about Molloy - it's good when the ball is boucned, but after that, what can he do? He won't be able to keep up with his opponent. So there's the problem.

In the second half NO one in the middle was going after the ball. Everybody was just watching them take it away so PJ, I agree that putting somebody like Molloy in the middle to crash through and get the ball would have been a good idea. To the other guy who replied, he could then slip back into the forward line rather than picking up his midfield opponent. Someone else could do that, eg. loose man in the backline.
