Seeing Cox take that mark and kick the opening goal of the game was the best thing I've seen this year!

We need stability. Varcoe out should be the only change this week unless we decide to stretch the weegirls and play Cloke.

- adams, did some real good things, I was a doubter if he would make an A grader

concerns
- Crisp, very fumbly, slow - I was not a doubter, not sure now
- Aish, easy to see why he was not getting a game at Brisbane. No obvious strengths in any area.
Agree with that.
Thought is was Adams best game for us so far.
Whatever gave you that idea?

Aish is way out of his depth in the AFL atm. He needs to find confidence and rhythm playing in the VFL for a while.

Out: Aish, Varcoe (inj)

In: Sinclair, Wills or Broomhead

De Goey played his best game for the season as well. He has something to build on now.

No Sinclair this week? Well no wonder we won so easily, must have had someone who could hit a target in his spot!

Don't rush him back...

Re Aish, I'd rather he have a mediocre first season and then 8-10 very good years than have a stellar first year come third in the Copeland and by then end of his second season not be in the best 22.

For those old enough, remember how pitiful Shane Morwood was in his first year.He was recruited as a gun forward.

Does anyone else think Langdon's absence was aplus?

23 disposals and 4 tackles (more than 12 other Pies) on debut.

Surely, you jest.
Thought he looked very green today and went safety first too often.
I like the boy and hope we persist with him at AFL level.
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

Suppose they do.

stui magpie wrote:Great win, came out hard and killed it in the first half. Yeah we dropped off in the second half but they also lifted. I'll take a 69 point win any day after the rubbish we served up so far this season.

If that doesn't make it clear to the doubters, I don't know what will.

It's not the coach or game plan that's been the problem, it's the players ability to execute.

Today they came out and performed. That's the new benchmark. The Sack Buckley brigade should all go skydiving without parachutes.
Sorry Stui but you must have inhaled to many of Lazza's fruity farts.

While I'm stoked to win in reality today was merely the result most would have expected during the off season against a seriously depleted Essendon side.

What only matters now is if we can build upon this performance and use it as a catalyst moving forward.

A win next week is probably the stuff of fantasy but we need an honourable loss at least to hold ground gained today.

The following two weeks though need to be wins against opposition likely to fill the bottom 3 places with Essendon.

Sure - we'd all like that, and while we'll at it I'd like Wyatt (rookie) to become the next Wayne Carey, and maybe Tom Phillips to be combination of Ablett and Judd. if your prediction comes true then fine, but please based it on some actual factual basis/trend rather than hope and then justifying your prediction based on an outlier example. How many examples do you want me to cite of a player having a crap first game and never making 20 AFL games.

Collingwood Crackerjack wrote: Not really, yes he got plenty, which is a good sign, but he looked decidedly rushed against a second rate team and made several unforced errors; I think he would do well to go back to the 2nds and get some more runs on the board before we try him against more able opposition
FFS he is a kid playing his first game of senior football H Shaw got 23 on debut he seems to go alright
Good point; I would have liked to see more finger-pointing and screaming at team mates from the lad, needs to lift his vitriol game.

He played alright, just don't think he is quite ready yet. And Heaters 23 would have been against better opposition than that methinks
Agree that Smith is probably not ready to hold down a senior spot, but today's game was a better performance than I expected. He made a few errors by foot and dropped a sitter of a mark out of bounds on a simple ball switch, but he also took his time and hit some targets and showed some courage in the contest.

He's 21-22 so that would have helped, but that was an impressive first up performance. I never expect a debut player is going to immediately cement a spot, that's pretty rare, he's definitely put his hand up for another game though. I do agree that it's going to be a different barrel of fish against the Eagles, will be interesting to see if we persist with the neophytes.
Well done boys!
