Reid is at his best playing loose across half back, where his ability to read the flight of the pill and take intercept marks, and especially his delivery by foot are major weapons.

Trouble is, if you play Brown ('coz no-one else has the strength to take Hawkins) and Reid (for his delivery through and past the centre) you have to leave out two small/medium defenders. I don't like that. For the first time this year, our defence looked like a defence instead of a rabble. OK, it was only Brisbane, but I'm loath to change a winning combination.

Howe is working well as a defender, but still has a lot to learn about shutting players down. That will come with time. Can we afford the time?

Selection in defence this week is very, very difficult. There doesn't seem to be a single best answer.

With no star midfielders due back in, and no-one out of form bar Greenwood (he will bounce back) and Crisp (slowly running back into shape), we shouldn't make any changes. As for the attack, leave it alone! Under no circumstances should Cloke play!
Yeah, I've never understood the Frost angst. Plucked from relative obscurity in the rookie draft (pick 41), the year after his draft year, I reckon he's done okay. People claim he's a 1 trick pony but I don't really care as long as he does his job and stops his opponent, that's all you can ask of a KPD who clocked his 50th game on Saturday night.

Reminded of another player who was plucked in the 06 PSD and copped similar criticisms at Collingwood, transferred to the Bears in 2000 or 2001 and seemed to go okay as a KPD. Frosty stacks up okay against him at the same age.

Frost may well be a one trick pony, but it's a damn good trick. The same could apply to Presti, he just had more bulk and was better equipped to handle gorillas.

We go in as clear underdogs, which suits me fine. As long as we have a genuine 4 quarter dip, which we are are quite capable of doing, then I think we can beat the Pussies. We are finally beginning to get something of a settled side together now, and the return of Sinclair, Varcoe and Adams has been huge. We now have more speed, grunt and footy smarts. I guess, the one player who really needs to rise to the occasion is Greenwood. He's been pretty average all year imo, but if he can do a decent tagging job on Dangerfield, then this will go a long way to helping us secure a massive upset. We'll probably need Doodle (Cox) and Moore to snag 3 goals each as well as Fasolo and Barry (Crocker) to get at least a couple as well. It's clearly a huge challenge, but I think we are good enough to do the job. Pies by 15 points.
Love your optimism but I have next to zero confidence we can beat the pussies in their current form. At this stage I'd be happy if can scare the bejesus out of them. Doggies the following week not any easier.
When it comes to the Pies, I always lead with my heart not my head. 8)
Putting that prancing ponce DANGERMAN on his fat ego centric arse, would be a real bonus too. :P

I have the tub of vaseline ready to go for this weekend. It's going to hurt if not lubricated properly.

And unlike other one trick pony KPDs I could mention, didn't cost us a 1st round draft pick in a bumper draft year.....

Not all things considered, but talking purely defense, against certain types he is our best, against others it's Brown. Overall I'd take Brown but mainly for experience. Reid's no longer a good defender, but an excellent intercept mark and rebounder, clearly our best in this. We've been a better team this year when Reid has had support from both Brown and Frost. The "hate" for Frost mostly seems to come from those who over emphasise attack from defense, they have the same problem with Brown, doesn't get enough of the ball or use it well enough.
Well done boys!

Fair comments Inky.

I have to admit, I have an ulterior motive. Bit of a man-crush on Frostie. I love it when an opposition tall leads out on his own and is about to take an uncontested mark. In the blink of an eye, just as the ball is about to fall into his hands, a black and white rocket steps into frame at 110km/h and, like magic, Frostie's big fist comes high over the top and smacks the pill 20 metres clear.

That happens about twice a quarter and I never get tired of it. Along with the Jamie Elliott high-fly speccie, the Ben Johnson running goal streaming down the wing, and the Pendlebury slow-motion dance through traffic, it's one of the great sights in football.
