There were instances where Cloke tried to get involved in the game by creating pressure and laying tackles, but whenever he lead forward he was always a step or two off the pace. He doesn't crash packs anymore like he used to, and looks barely a shadow of his former self.
I don't know what the answer is for Cloke. Do we persevere with him or move him on... His team mates used him as a decoy from time to time. That's always a worrying sign. But I wouldn't blame him. He wasn't ready to come back. If Moore and Faz were fit then they'd be playing and Cloke would've been playing against wezza.
He'll get another go next week because there's literally no one else available but we shouldn't be playing him with Grundy, White, and Cox. That's stupid and nonsensical. We had no one crumbing at the contests today which allowed port to clear with ease.
People have called for Cloke to move to defense but he's nowhere near quick enough. Play him on the wing away from the forward line.

I agree with those who say our weakness starts with coach Bucks. I think he is a good skills teacher, but he hasn't a AFL standard game plan. I don't think he talks right for the battlefield. He is too sophisticated for a fast and furious type of game....it takes too long for what he says to sink in. I also don't like how he bags the players effort all the time. To my observation, the players are not in-sync with the game plan. I suggest that this effort bagging is demoralising & demotivating.
If the players do not believe in the game plan, its very demanding physically to run your guts out back and forth for a perceived bad game plan. I also suspect that the players are divided, probably between old and new and more possibly involving Travis Cloke.
We need to play SMARTER....starting at the TOP....that means our Mr Buckley if he is up to it.

Why attack a new contributor like this? Your facts only prove that nathan buckley was legend Collingwood champion, but says nothing about his coaching.mudlark wrote:Career highlightsTwiggy wrote:I am not a member only a barracker living in NSW. I think Twiggy's comments in relation to Travis Cloke might have some merit.
As for his final comment suggesting that there is doubt regarding Buckley's competencies as a coach, I think that is highly appropriate.

At the end of their playing and coaching careers I will show more respect to Travis Cloke than Nathan Buckley.
1 was able to be a key player in a premiership and the other has been the captain and coach of two of our worst eras.

True AFAIC. Football history is littered with champion players who had little to no success as coach. By the same token, there's plenty of champion players who never won a Brownlow.Gonzalo wrote:His playing achievements have no bearing on his coaching ability.mudlark wrote:Career highlightsTwiggy wrote:I am not a member only a barracker living in NSW. It's interesting when you look at the stats and see that we weren't 'that bad' on paper. However, when you watch the game, you can see that we were torn apart from start to finish.
I blame our overuse of the ball and poor skills in general. Decision making leaves a lot to be desired and our lack of accountability is back in full force.
The zone does not work and that was clear as day today. Seeing port streaming forward with ease time and time again was a disgusting sight. Where was the leadership and stability. Who is in charge on the field and showing direction and leadership??
What I saw was a team bereft of confidence and understanding of what their role was. A lot of heads down, a lot of mistakes made, a lot of dumb football.
I don't care how inexperienced we might be, there's no excuse for sloppy unaccountable football. Everyone knows the basics and should have the ability to stick to them, at least, if nothing else.
Instead we bomb in hope, handball to anyone and everyone, don't move or make space.
My favourite is when a Collingwood player manages to hit up an opponent lace out or kicks to a two on one.
Our lack of run and carry is a worrying sign especially when that's the main ingredient of the way the game is played now.
Nothing really changed when the sh!t hit the fan today.
