If you saw Marley's disposal in the twos you wouldn't have been yelling to bring him in.
Cloke played his role, and his only real blemishes were a dropped mark in the goalsquare and a overhurried kick at the Punt Road end which ended in a behind. He chased, tackled and led well. We don't want him kicking at goals from inside 50, leave that to the guys that can.
Mind you I saw a worrying sign after the ball went through his hands. He put his hands back into marking position and chastised himself verbally for missing it, but it was kinda the worried/almost autistic way he did it that got my attention. I seriously worry about his mental health, as he looked to still have the world on his shoulders. I'm not sure everything is ok with him and he could be headed for a breakdown. I could be 100% wrong of course.

At the end of 2011 when Bux took over where did most of us see us after 5 years? Most 5 year plans are supposed to culminate into a premiership or at least a strong side on the cusp. We are bottom 6 and getting worse. Injuries are a factor in all of this but if the Buckley coaching story revolves around crippling injuries every season that too is failure enough to change leadership, is it not? No team is this unlucky, we are doing things wrong and it is not being addressed year on year. The bomb is ticking......

Happy for posters to post objective critisism, much of it though is vitriolic vomit and nothing more than the continuation of a hate agenda, and largely baseless and founded on ignorance and denial of mitigating factors.Magpietothemax wrote:OK, but you still have to consider their points objectively. Agree. The time comes when the consistency of crippling injuries can no longer be simply attributed to misfortune. Whether it is in our prophylaxis strategies for minimizing injuries, or whether it lies in the nature of a misconceived approach to the game that is based on frenetic pressure and kamikaze attacks on the contested ball to make up for lack of skill in delivery, there comes a time when we must search for non-random factors.Beast wrote:Brandishing Buckley's achievements as a player to justify his total ineptness as a coach and an utter disgrace we became under him is the new low, or a high if you're an aficionado of a black humour like me

I have been trying to figure out how to reply on this bulletin board, so far attempts are without success.
For now, Mudlark needs to hold his/her mud. I have been following the pies probably before (s)he was born.....just because I am living in NSW now....he assumed I follow NRL.....not interested. Love the Pies....as does more and more NSW folks get converted to AFL...

Gee, and here I was thinking that was exactly the same way we looked against the Bears and the Cats... go figure!Magpietothemax wrote:The comparison with Carlton is very apt. Their list is not as good as ours, yet their performances as a team are far better. How can this be explained except by coaching? Moreover, it is clear that Carlton's team has been instilled with confidence...confidence in their roles, confidence in each other. I think that Buckley is failing abjectly in this area.
And Carlton arguably only Murphy of their best 22.

You and Giz should share a room.Doc63 wrote:No, only injuries to Collingwood players count.Gonzalo wrote:Port had Lobbe out - their first choice ruckman.

It's time to stop using injuries as an excuse for a 10 goal loss to a side outside the 8.
The reality is we only had 4 best 22 players out in Swan (he is about to retire), Adams, Fasolo and Elliot. They had more best 22 players out than us.
Who the opposition has unavailable is irrelevant.
IMV our best 22:
Howe Frost Ramsay
Adams Reid Langdon
Varcoe Treloar Sidebottom
Elliott Moore Fasolo
Blair Cox Swan
Grundy Pendlebury DeGoey
Crisp Williams Scharenberg Greenwood
4? Depending on your opinion - I see 9 starting 22 missing.
That's nearly 1/2 of our side!
Ramsay, Adams, Langdon - that's 1/2 of our backline.
Elliott, Moore, Fasolo and Swan is most of our forward line.
You must see a completely different starting 22 to me.

Jez never lets facts get in the way of his vomit. Largely why he's posting under a new name I think.Jpies wrote:I think you're rewriting history there. Our 'worst era' with Buckley as captain included two grand final appearances, playing finals in 06 and 07 and a finishing very close to finals in other years. Our only shocking years were 99 and 2000, immediately after he took over. If anything, Buckleys captaincy coincided with the long term rebuild of the entire club.Gonzalo wrote:At the end of their playing and coaching careers I will show more respect to Travis Cloke than Nathan Buckley.
1 was able to be a key player in a premiership and the other has been the captain and coach of two of our worst eras.

That was bitterly disappointing after showing so much the last three weeks. Interesting that the team really took it bulldogs last week until cruelled by injury for the last quarter.
Young sides do tend to tire as the season progresses.
This week there were forced changes due to injury in what had finally been a more settled side for a few weeks. This would have upset the equilibrium a little. Couple with that perhaps fatigue set in due to having to cover for four injured players and no rotations last week.
No excuse I know, just searching for reasons for the team performance today compared to last week.
I do think that the constant failure to capitalise on chances going forward for whatever reason does sap the life out of them and puts huge pressure on defence as well.
You can see the game could be won if things did go together. Often seem to initially beat themselves by e.g. overusing the ball, or kicking blindly, not to their advantage. Then the rot sets in as confidence is lost and the fatigue of how hard they make it for themselves starts to set in.
I hope it comes together eventually in a consistent way soon

As for Port - they only played one of Ryder and Lobbe last year - Ryder.
So put a line through Lobbe.
Mofries is their best Crumbing Forward? I thought he was a small marking forward? What about Wingard? He's second best is he? Joke.
So in reality they would have;
Ryder or Lobbe, Monfries, Schulz and Hombsch would be the ones missing from their best 22, and I wouldn't have Jonas there ahead of Hombsch.

And Port had 7 of their best 22 missing. All things being equal, I don't see an 11 goal turnaround.Daniel wrote:You and Giz should share a room.Doc63 wrote:No, only injuries to Collingwood players count.Gonzalo wrote:Port had Lobbe out - their first choice ruckman.
