Reckon we would be ranked No. 1....
Joe the goose would love playing against us.
When Bux gave out the game plan manual it had press up for the defence
But they ran out of ink so the next page called press back was deleted.
Can't blame the boys.....it was that damn manual!
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

35 players used, more than any other club is FACT, not SPIN.
I think you believed a lot of SPIN at the beginning of the year, when FACT was we were unlikely to make top 8, even without injury - given the age of our list and lack of time playing together.
I disagree with your assessment of the situation. While we were never going to win the premiership this year we had every reason to think we had the makings on a final 8 side, given who we recruited and an extra year of development in our younger players. For one reason or another it hasn't worked out that way and now it's all about salvaging what's left in the year. But by any measure we have severely underperformed so far this season and our ambitions of challenging for a premiership in 2017 or 2018 are under threat. We therefore need to have a thorough assessment of where it all went wrong at the end of the year to determine what we need to do to get it right next year. We just can't accept failure any longer but scapegoating any particular individual for that failure is not going to solve anything.
Disagree. Think you'll find a fairly significant proportion of posters actually nominated pretty broad ranges in likely finishing place. Myself, I thought 5 -10. That doesn't project "every reason to think we had the makings of a final 8 side" but allows that if everything goes right we could. Not too much has gone right. Losing Swanny minutes into game 1 likely set the tone. I still haven't completely ruled out the potential of finals in 2016, but it does become less likely with every loss.
I had us somewhere between 3-6 at the end of the home and away season and I'm sure I wasn't the only one who had us this high. I should add that depth was the one area I thought we fixed up this year with the recruitment of Treloar, Howe and Aish to cover for any injuries we had. Two of those three have been fantastic for us so injuries aside, I think we should have expected better. I would also think the football department expected a better performance from the players this year.
Generally sides should expect to play finals for three years before they can genuinely challenge for the flag. the recent exception was Haw in 2008, but then they had to wait a few more years to get another crack. Any speculation that the Pies will genuinely challenge in 2017 or 2018 is fairly fanciful in my opinion, so the sooner we can get some final experience in the group the better.
Listening on the radio and it was easy to picture what was happening. Seen it all before. No leadership, no player to provide a spark and make a difference, hopeless goal kicking. The defence press up, disregard any opposition forwards and then get found out.
The coach can see it happening and doesn't change it. For the whole game.
Its all very disappointing.

fast footy kills the defence press.
4 goals from coast to coast goals from the kick ins.
Getting to the situation where when we get a point....... then I really start worrying with the coast to coast frenzy.

What disappoints me is that players like Reid, Brown and Toovey are all experienced Premiership players, yet none of them seem to show much leadership in terms of organising the backline. While up forward, I've been amazed to see big Coxy often directing the other forwards where to position themselves.

All self inflicted then.
Footy department would as you suggest have gone through preseason with high hopes, lots of planning and practice... but who actually thinks that they would have built their expectations on an assumption that Swan and Elliott would not play in 2016. That Cloke wouldn't be the key forward. That Varcoe would miss half the season to date. That Robbo would throw a hand grenade into the team on the eve of our first game. That we'd get 3/5s of FA out of Williams and Ramsay season to date... Yes I think they would have been optimistic but equally they'd be continually re-evaluating.

Same here although I thought Reid was good yesterday. Brown has been really disappointing considering he was appointed to the leadership group and that's taking into consideration his recent hamstring injury. Toovey has never shown much in the way of leadership qualities and needed Maxwell around to direct him.

The only one of those that looks a massive loss right now (as opposed to vs their form in 2011) is Pendlebury. Thought I love many of those names, moving some of them on may well be the key to the next flag, as it was in 2010 with many great servants.
bucks just admitted on AFL 360 tonight that they knew all week about the forward structure port where going to use, and planned accordingly for it.
So bucks/assistant coaches plan failed terribly on the day, and the players could not deviate from that plan as it was coaches orders...
His plan was not designed for wet weather conditions at all.
U can blame the mids for not putting enough defensive effort in etc, but u cant sacrifice offense and defense when 1 part of the field isnt going to plan. That is a very High risk game plan IMO.

Reid is a great player, but he doesn't seem to demonstrate much in the way of direction and leadership to his young teammates. He should be constantly pointing and shouting, as Maxy used to do. He is our most experienced defender after all....and a Premiership player at that.
