Canberra Game

Post by Melsa5 »

Just wondering Eddie.

If the Canberra game is moved back to Melbourne, will the loyal supporters who booked tickets to fly up there be compensated at all? Unfortunately we are restricted with what we can and can't do.

I totally agree that the game should be transferred, as it looks like it could be a crucial one, but this could end up being quite costly for alot of us. I would be more happy donating the money to the club that letting it go down the gurgualar.

Keep up the good work Pies you make us proud!

Fill me in here - is it looking likely that the game will be transferred to Melbourne? I thought Canberra was a "sure thing" now.

I thought it was a dead and buried thing as well, but hearing Eddie on the radio on the weekend saying, this game should be moved, just got me thinking that maybe they are going to have one last ditch to get it moved. Its funny because it would be a good thing.

the canberra game is definitely on and will not change. earlier this year, I wrote to eddie to express my disappointment about the shift from sydney to canberra and greg swan wrote a reply letter to me saying that it was basically out of c'wood's hands because it's a kangaroo home game. as this is the case, it would not be up to c'wood to provide compensation as they did not make the request to shift the game. however, I also wrote to greg miller, chief executive of the kangaroos, who to my utter surprise, actually called me at work last week! at first I thought it was a joke, but it was really him! anyway, greg explained how the roos had wanted the game in manukah from the start of the year all along and it was the AFL that didn't change the fixture. there was nothing he could do about the non-refundable airline tickets that I had bought for sydney, so he offered to give me two free tickets to the game in canberra. I now think a lot better of the kangaroos and would like to thank greg miller for his generosity.

Junkboy, that's great news!!! They certainly didn't have to do all that for you!

Still, they shouldn't have moved the game though and it should never have been a consideration to play in Canberra - I think it's an insult to have top quality sportsmen playing in front of a crowd of 12000-15000 people (although I guess North are used to those small crowds!!!!!).

Thanks for that Junkboy! I feel a bit better now.

Gee its good to see that the clubs are still looking after the members, even though the big guns like the AFL may not sometimes. Especially when a club is feeling that pinch like the Kangas, its quite encouraging.

Hey as this is my first post, I would like to say thanks guys for the quick response. Looking forward to chatting with you more.

welcome melsa5 and yes, it is heartening to see that clubs like c'wood and the kangaroos do listen to fans and do often go out of their way for them. about the only ones who couldn't give a toss are the AFL, because I also wrote to andrew demetriou, operations manager of the AFL, and I haven't heard back from him yet.
