At the moment I see him as a promising player but unlikely to be a fear factor for the opposition - unless the clearance capability really starts to stand out.
DeGoey has this as well (so does Pendles). it is in fact a key asset for every gun player in the comp. I agree he has that quality which is why he looks so polished IMO.
still to be seen if he can develop the other important aspects of the game and whether like Pendles, his limitations, such s pace, can be rendered irrelevant.

Why would Reid be retiring? He's played almost every game this year. Ridiculous
As for Rupert Wills. He shows a bit - ability to stand up in a tackle, neat disposal when he has time, good hoof of a kick, willingness to stick a tackle too
One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership

Makes me wanna scream how many guys have turned it up a few notches in the last half dozen. Aish has been a revelation, finally showing exactly what we saw in his first year, DeGoey had his best since the NAB, Willsy has played 3 ridiculously good games, Brodes has become the best young ruck in the game by a mile, Darcy showed JUST what he can do in the last few games, While not as obvious Phillips has shown Plenty, and Crocker is going to be one of the big name forwards, while Smith's 35 touches is insane for a first season. !
Why would it make you wanna scream ? It makes me want to rejoice that our new team of contenders is coming over the hill ...! ???
Wills gives us pure grunt and brute force in the midfield. Much like Greenwood, only he's bigger and has more skill. As he has not played much football in recent years, there's huge upside to his development.
With De Goey, we have the makings of the toughest midfield duo in the AFL.
think better wrote:Check out his clearance in the White Takes Flight video on the CFC website. Happens at the 1.09 mark - I reckon his kick travels 65-70 metres out of the centre and White marks it.
Makes his 100 metre goal in the VFL look like less of a fluke!
Which video? I can't find one on the CFC site by that name or anything similar

While I think you're being overly harsh on Goodyear, he was selected ahead of Wills because he had the VFL form and the required fitness when at that time Wills was struggling to run out VFL games.

If he tidies up his skills I can see him being as good as Barlow. Problem is, are we seeing guys like Barlow getting left behind by the pace of the game, or is he just a victim of Freo's poor form? Cripps has similar movement characteristics, size and pace but he's a ball magnet and has really good skills. Can Wills get to that level?
He was a really skinny kid when he fronted the VFL as a 23rd player, has obviously done a lot of work to get to where he is now. Another solid preseason into him and improved fitness and he might get close. Time will tell.

Earlier in the year I think there were queries over Rupe's aerobic fitness. Once he got enough VFL games under his belt and got fitter, he was deemed AFL ready. He should be even better next season.
There are quite a few posters who chime in every week with a post or two wherever they can fit it in suggesting that Wills should be an in. Sometimes they even proposing dropping someone who played really well in the previous week.
Ok, so here is the thread.
Convince me why my assumption that Wills will be delisted by the end of the season isn't correct and why you think the selection committee gets it wrong literally every week by failing to include him in our team.
Or is there some in joke that i am missing.

I think it's the fascination with the big bodied mid who can kick it over a barn and tackles like a man possessed. We all seem to want as many stoppage beasts as possible - but then there's noone on the outside.
Wills showed a bit in his first couple games (I think he set a record for most tackles on debut), but others have gone past him - namely Sier.
It's a shame that injuries hit when they did as he was really looking good, but I think his ceiling is just not as high as others.
