Other than Roach that was an excellent year. It would be intresting to compare that to how the other clubs fared in the same year

Thanx Joel, Looks like Geelong, Bulldogs and Melbourne also fared pretty well from this draft.

Talking about late choices, have a look at Footscray's picks in the 1988 draft
Bulldogs:7:Leon Cameron (172 games)
21:Anthony Reynolds (0)
35: John Georgiades (15)
49: Shannon Corcoran (23)
63: Scott Davies (0)
77: Robert Bloom (0)
86: Ben Sexton (35)
91: Matthew Queen (0)
105: Chris Grant (enough said)
And by the way, Collingwood was one of the many clubs who overlooked Grant... picks 11,53,67 and 81 played 4 games between them... while Collingwood used 95 to get Tony Francis.... Drafts were pretty weird back then...[/b]

From what i was told, Footscray was the only club even WATCHING Grant play, but there's more to this story than i can remember. Maybe they "hid him" from view?

Tony Francis informed all clubs that he had no intention of crossing to Victoria in 1989, therefore delaying his debut 'til 1990. I remember thinking at the time that was excellent foresight by the club, in picking up a highly recommended SANFL player with a later pick and waiting, as no other club was willing to risk this. Even so, it took a couple of trips across to SA by G.Allen, Matthews and co. to convince him to take the opportunity. Great debut it was too in Perth vs. WCE, suspeneded for 6 weeks trying to kick some sense into Murray Rance! But Tony had the last laugh 6 months later.
