What the hell are they thinking down there? He doesn't even have a good kicking action. Seriously are we that dumb as a club? Bucks, you need to put the stat sheet away and get a grip.
There is a tape going round where he is running fast and jumping high. I never actually knew he had a leap but he does. The tape was from 2012 so who knows if he still has it in him, but it was impressive, full of big leaps and chase down tackles.
Here it is.

Yep that's the one, thanks.

I have no idea whether he's terminally declined since, but that highlight clip is impressive. His tackling is great, I knew this but he's quicker than I thought. His attack on the ball in the air is what surprised me the most. If he plays like this for us, he'd be well worth signing.

What we're looking to get: an excellent defensive forward (no doubting this) who also kicks more than a goal a game (Mayne averages more than a goal a game but has dropped below in some seasons). He also adds some experience to a young forward line and competes in the air as well as having the mobility to come up the field and win the ground ball.

The only area in which he's elite is defensive pressure, but he does everything else at least decently as well. The only minor issue I have with his signing is that it'd be good if he were a couple of years younger.
Well done boys!

If Mayne and Fasolo are both fit I reckon one of them will end up in defense.

Elliot, Howe and Mayne taking hangers up forward could be lots of fun.

Howe mostly in defense I think. Top 5 in Copeland makes this even more certain.

Although WHE can also take a hanger:

No issue with the club getting Mayne (or Wells for that matter) I can see the sense...what i can't understand is the supposed contract lengths or dollars. four years for Mayne???? I honestly hope it is 2 ...3 at a push..... 3 for Wells is just silly, and the word is at half a million a year? or more... I know..i know it is all speculation at this point.

We have spent so many years building young talent.....would hate to lose someone the ilk of a Adams or Grundy because we spent too much of our cap on Mayne or Wells.

Or worse miss out on a huge fish ah la Fyfe if he was to leave next year because we over spent on speculative restricted/ unrestricted free agents.

^^Pretty sure both of their contracts will be heavily front ended, (ala Luke Ball) as there should be a fair bit of cap space next year.

I rate Mayne.
And by all accounts he isn't an arrogant flog like the rest of the players based over here in WA.

I think we need to take the contract deals on trust. We won't know the full details and the media reports aren't to be believed.

Im curioous, as many others are, as to why Collingwood seem so keen on Mayne. He appears slow and one dimensional and peaked 3 years ago. I want to trust our recruiting system, but this just does not look like the right decision for the club.

We lack a forward line, DTM - not just the pressure.

Disagree Pies4Shaw.

Adelaide supposedly has the best forward line in the league with:
Walker, Jenkins, Lynch, Betts, McGovern and Cameron.

Our likely starting forward line fitness permitting:
Moore, Cox, Elliott, Fasolo, Mayne, Wells.

Granted I would like a small forward and I think Broomhead can play that role, but the forward line that I have listed for us is very dangerous and for mine compares nicely to Adelaide's.

Yep, hope the club knows what they are doing? This year we couldn't get a forward on the park bringing both Mayne and Wells if they are all healthy it's going to be difficult playing them all at once! Interesting season coming up?
