Hopefully another BallCHRIS MAYNE: GOALKICKING STAR?
The manager of new Collingwood recruit Chris Mayne says the former Docker has been undersold by Victorian fans.
"I think with Wells and Mayne they (Collingwood) will be top eight if they can keep their best 22 out there," Colin Young told SEN.
Young said Mayne's role under Ross Lyon drove him "crazy" and Collingwood fans would see a different player.
"He's the No.1 defensive forward in the league ... hopefully he'll kick 50-60 goals and go back to his form of a few years ago."
Collingwood's top goalkicker in 2016 was Alex Fasolo with 25. If Mayne had kicked 60 goals this year he would have finished sixth in the Coleman Medal. Something to look forward to, Magpie fans!

I'm with you 100% mate, I've thought for a couple of seasons now that Mayne is the kind of guy we've needed to bring into our forward line. I think his manager's comments are extremely optimistic (and tinted by bias obviously), but if Chris can continue his average of around 5 tackles a game and notch 30ish goals for us next season I'll be pretty pleased.Invigoration wrote:People seriously underrating Mayne, take it most don't watch any opposition games let alone Freo's. He is super consistent, durable and provides exactly what our forward line needs at the moment.
I've always been a fan of his, getting him for free is just the cherry on top.
Elliot, Fasolo, Mayne, that's a pretty potent list of small/medium forwards, should give our opposition a lot to think about from a match-up perspective.

If he displaces Blair I will be happy.
But in 2016 he kicked about the same number of goals as Blair
That effort is not worth writing home about.
Anyway, welcome Chris, and hope you are a major part in our next Finals campaign.

He has only kicked more than 30 goals in a year twice; in 2012 and 2013.
So i can't see him kicking 60 goals all of a sudden.
If he can find form up foward then Goldsack will be able to concentrate on being a defender again.

And with Fasolo and hopefully Elliott to return to the pockets to balance to the forward line, I hope nobody here is expecting the 2nd coming of Medhurst...killer wrote:He has only kicked more than 30 goals in a year twice; in 2012 and 2013.

If Mayne can kick 30 goals in a season and be prominent as a strong defensive forward I will be happy with that.killer wrote:He has only kicked more than 30 goals in a year twice; in 2012 and 2013.

We'll be laughing if he kicks 50 or 60 goals but I doubt it will happen.
