What rubbish. Blair would be best 22 in at least 6 teams and he would most certainly be a handy back-up player for most teams in the case of injury. I suspect he isn't that expensive and is so professional he would do whatever role he was asked to do.FrankieGoesToCollingwood wrote:Hard to knock Blair but it's a bit of an indictment on our total list that he's a required player. Not sure there's been anyone better to play his role which begs the question, what the hell role is it and why do we need it?
If you had of said its an indictment on us that he is best 22, then i might agree with you, but a guy like Blair would be assured a spot on most teams list as a back-up player.

That's not really a great recommendation. I guess it is okay if you are planning to be a bottom 6 team, which we are not planning to be.
Even that is debateable, it would seem the bottom six teams had plenty of opportunity to recruit him, and none did

Think you are missing the point entirely, again! i don't know how to help you.gurugeoff wrote:my fault, look forward to his .2 goals per game for the next two years
To address your new silly point. I haven't heard you complain about the other 30 players on the Collingwood list who kick less than 0.2 goals per week...... Should everyone who average 0.2 goals or lest be dropped from their team immediately and banned from ever playing AFL footy again. will be a pretty shallow pool of talent if that is the case.
not sure anyone has been arguing that Blair is a star. I dont even think anyone here is arguing he is in Collingwood's best 22. but he is a professional footballer who will eprform whatever role is required of him to the best of his ability and it is good honest football that you get. Given all the injuries that occur in a season (and the terrible form slumps of younger players), a player such as Blair would likely get 5-10 games in a season with nearly every club in the league.
AND to be clear. It is perfectly fine to have such a player on your list of 40 odd players. In fact, he is the perfect guy to have on your list of 40 players. Experienced, ready to perform, team oriented. The perfect back-up player.
Now we just have to hope that the rest of the superstars that we have that you chose not to criticize mercilessly, can actually develop consistency, stay off the drugs, get their bodies in perfect shape and work their asses off so that they can legitimately keep blair OUT OF THE SIDE!
they couldnt do it last year. and of course, that is obviously blair's fault!
He's a Premiership player, and was an integral part of that great 2010 side. His problem is that the game has evolved a lot since then, but I'm not sure he has developed his own game much. He's probably a squad player now, but one who can be relied upon to give his all when called upon. That said, I'd like to think we've got better players coming through to force him out of our best 22. If not, then we're in trouble.

You obviously have never watched Blair, or the team for that matter, play. He does a hell of a lot of unselfish, courageous grunt work, forward and centre.gurugeoff wrote:okay, I get it, you love Blair. and a 'silly comment' back at ya - Blair sits in the forward pocket for 120 minutes a game, 22 weeks a year - kpi for that position is goals kicked unlike most of the other 30 players,
But like so many you need someone to slag off. It's ok, he's got broad shoulders. And if rumour is true, a nice shiny new contract.
You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!
