Calm down, it was a practice match. Everyone knows he has the ability and skills, he just needs to bring that to every game. My view is the more responsibility he is given on the field increases his output.

Exactamundo. If I remember right, he was tearing it up in the pre-season comp last year, then his form dropped off considerably when the real stuff was on. However, this time he looks to have increased his fitness, which was his main weakness last year. I reckon he could become one of the absolute gun midfielders in the AFL, but he's got to demonstrate more consistency.

What I liked on Thursday night was that he would put on a burst of speed, brush off a would be tackler and keep his feet.

I noticed on quite a few occasions last year that he would try to do the same thing and either get caught or fall over.

If he can continue to develop as a mid-field beast with good skills and the ability to kick goals, but still there is along way to go. A high draft pick who only turns 21 in March, is listed is 191cm & 91kg and now in his 3rd year. We can only hope or do we dare to dream. Danger?

I've been defending De Goey for the past 2 years and I've used Isaac Heeney as the comparison.

Their stats in their furst 2 seasons have almost been identical, but Heeney is rated higher because he performed well in one final, while De Goey hasn't had that chance yet.

We made the wrong choice when we took JDG with our first pick, we should have taken a key position player (two meter Peter for example).

But De Goey will be a star midfielder.

But that's what he is. A midfielder. If Bucks and the coaching staff play him as a half forward for an entire game again they are down right stupid.

De Goey has to be part of our midfield rotation this year, and for many years to come.

Don't be so harsh on the coaching staff. The main reason he was played mainly as a half forward was that he clearly did not have the engine to be a true midfielder. hopefully, he's on the way to achieving that now. he will be an out and out star.

I think I'll trust Derek Hine here, who said when we drafted JDG that he was an out and out pure midfielder who had been severely played out of position at under 18 level (ironically as a forward also).

Fitness has never been his problem, more a case of a few very ordinary footballers instead of him playing in the middle last year.

He has the potential to be an absolute elite AFL midfielder, can't say that about any more then 4-5 players on our list, including those who are already at that level.

I'm with matty. Nothing wrong with his engine. There is no point being a clearance specialist & then play the year as a half forward. Especially when we let our forwards be consistently outnumbered by spare defenders. Kid is a gun & OP is spot on.

If DeGoey continues to improve then our midfield is set for the next 2-3 years.

We need to focus on talls over the next few years, Sam Reid and Jeremy Cameron spring to mind.

I really liked his game and the potential he showed. I've been a fan of what he could be all along. He's a big unit for a midfielder and will need a bit of time yet, but when he hits 24-25 he will be an elite mid if we handle him right.

What do you mean calm down. I just wanted to put a thread out there that said "De Gun". Needed some words to fill the page. Hardly what you'd call over excited.

By the way, this practice match did nothing to increase De Gun in my mind. I have been watching him do GUN things for the last two years. Its just that his work and his sublime skill set have gone unnoticed by most on here.

Goals come soooo much easier for De Pies when De Goey (who is De gun) touches De ball!

I have always held the belief that De-gun will develop to be a solid A grader.

I also held the belief that Grundy and Witts would make a fantastic ruck combo.

Witts and Grundy will be a fantastic ruck combo. Possibly the best ruck combo in the league within three years. Unfortunately, Grundy will have to do the lions share of the work!!!!
