He may get the tap, but what happens after that? How many times does he tap it to his players for first use of the footy? etc etc...

2 simple needs for COLLINGWOOD are the following:
Tall defender ; and a
Back up ruckmen.
Put simply slot a Sean Wellman and a Jeff White type of player in the Collingwood and now Collingwood has the COMPLETE team and quite possibliy just 1 more key forward crumber.
PUZZLE COMPLETE THAT IS IT !

GOOD OLD COLLINGWOOD UNITED FOREVER AND EVER AMEN GOD BLESS THEM ALL

Much is being said about spider and the possibility of him being availble. For one I hope he is not even a considered as a possible player we would seriously endeavour to get.
All we hear and have come to expect from Collingwood is how important it is to surround a club with people of character and individuals that would bring postives to a club. I feel Everitt is not an example of any of these requirements, and if his track record by way of innuendo at St Kilda is anything to go by why should we risk upsetting our player group for the sake of a 'handy at best' player. Please Collingwood, we are on the right track and if we do need to be patient that little bit longer, we will be, but please dont make any more stupid recruiting blunders.

Let a Freo or West Coast grab him, although I think a player who has been so controversial and blatantly stupid in how he conductes himself off the ground would not attract the interest of the fair dinkum clubs.

I think we are judging Everitt too harshly because of his perceived character.

You can't blame him. St Kilda's culture, its work environment and its history doesn't facilitate players with the best characters.

A change of club will do him good. A new coach, a club actually going places and a stable administration that doesn't tolerate negative innuendo will all contribute to a refreshed Everitt.

You only have to look at Matty Lappin as an example of player improving because he got away from St Kilda. Sure he plays up a bit (the papers make it worse than it is) but the move from St Kilda, to a more stable club, has contributed to making him a much better player.

Sure Everitt has a checkered past. Criminal convictions and runs ins with the law have not helped his reputation. The bottom line is that he is one of the leagues best ruckman (stats don't lie) and he can play.

One of our best ever players had this same problem. That is he hijacked buses, got arrested in casinos and had run ins with the law, but the bottom line of Millane was that he could play.

Spider was a fanactical Collingwood supporter in his younger days. Surely this coupled with the change of club will make him a committed player for the Collingwood Football Club.

Collingwood has a history of knocking back stars because they were worried about the character of the player. Lockett had a checkered history and was also a product of the weak St Kilda culture.

We knocked him back because of this and as a result we missed out on a golden opportunity. The change of clubs did him the world of good and he improved as a player and character.

I'm not against getting Everitt, but I dont think we make our normal trade to get him, meaning we dont get shafted. If we pick him up, great, but looks like Rocca wont be on the market. Maybe the Saints will fancy McKee, or six warm stubbies?

Criminal convictions and run in's with the law...I think this sentence sums up the highlights of Everitts career. He is no champion and if its a case of weighing up risk I dont think the return would ever be worth the punt. For a player who freely admitted he occasionally plays without passion I think that speaks for itself.
When it comes to the much maligned St Kilda culture, i think certain senior players like Everitt have contributed significantly to it.
Yeah Pants was I guess a similar roguish character but footy has evolved 10 fold since he last played and given what we fork out now for memeberships and just the opportunity to go to the footy I dont think his behaviour would be tolerated around any club.TO put it fairly blatantly that behaviour possibly cost pants his life.Dont get me wrong,I grew up on Millane's and Bank's antics and I loved their larrikanism but those days are gone. Player lists back then allowed for 52 players and the salary cap was just over a million bucks so having a Millane or Banks and maybey a couple other stirrers was ok but not today...
And to address the point on plugger I dont doubt it was a huge mistake to overlook him but when it came down to a boardroom decison the voting process was so biased (because of a particular elder Richardson being on the board) it came down to a 3against 2for vote. The deciosn was made I feel to protect another younger Richardson who was a potential full forward running around in the two's.
Lastly I dont recall young Lockett getting booted from Crown Casino(or its equivalent back then) or puching on outside a nightclub or throwing cans at passing vehicles down by the mornington peninsula.Dont forget Plugger is perhaps on of the greatest players to have ever played the game, sure the gamble paid off but he was a champion full forward in his st kilda days that transpired to greatness in his Swans days please dont mention Everitts name in the same breath a pluggers, as players they are poles apart.Everitt is not in the top 25 players in the AFL currently(lucky if he was top 50).
DOnt recruit that little bit of St Kilda culture if we can avoid it....Hey I hear Pavlich aint happy at Freo...shock horror....
