ABC axes Yassmin Abdel-Magied's Australia Wide program
The ABC is axing the program hosted by Yassmin Abdel-Magied a month after the television presenter and activist sparked outrage over her Anzac Day comments.
Australia Wide is set to be shelved in the coming weeks as part of the national broadcaster's sweeping restructure. As well as programming changes, as many as 200 jobs are being slashed in order to reinvest $50 million a year back into regional and online content.

I'm willing to bet it was a crap show......David wrote:Interesting. So much for the ABC's political independence?
(I grant that it's possible it was just a crap/badly-rating show, but the timing does raise eyebrows.)

It was basically opinionated bullshit and I only saw it because they chucked it in between a couple of footy games. It might do ok on SBS. Besides the footy the banans in pajamas rates higher over here. It lacks the polish of foreign correspomdence and plenty of shows doing similar. The ABC has to commit to the bush and that is there focus. Perhaps there is a need for a rural tv set up like SBS but it will run at a loss.stui magpie wrote:I'm willing to bet it was a crap show......David wrote:Interesting. I haven't seen the show but to sack her is very poor & only a few right wing tossers were concerned about her comments on Anzac Day.David wrote:Interesting. So much for the ABC's political independence?

I have read in more detail what she wrote on Anzac Day & have reviewed my opinion. She didn't write anything remarkable but the easily offended right wing nutters have too much power currently - hence the sacking.
Mind you Michelle Guthrie is to the ABC what Kerry Packer was the The board of Cricket Australia at the time of world series cricket or what Donald Trump is the credibility of US foreign policy

You draw the assumption that she was sacked because of her ANZAC day tweet, when it's far more probable that her show was simply shit, in which case it would have been poor form to keep her employed.
