39 scoring shots to 19, very positive. 72 inside 50's, very positive. So, we really should have won by 80+ points.

Set shot goal kicking not up to par again, but at least we were getting shots. Hopefully, we can kick straight next week and for the remainder of the season, as if we can, we will many games.
We are actually ranked 6th for scores against, which is pretty good considering we have had some pretty major lapses during games. So the back's, despite not playing together a lot and at times a heap of pressure being applied are doing pretty well. I think the middle is going alright. All of which points to the fact that if we can get the forwards a bit more functional, particularly the goal kicking (as you mention) it will start to come together sooner rather than later.

The Sidey debate. His disposal in the first half for a player of his ability was very poor. I think the frustrating thing is he does so many mercurial things that it is hard to make sense of the basic skill errors he makes. His disposal in the second half was far better, as was his impact on the game. For mine, he wasn't in the best 5 players on the ground.

As per my post in the pre game thread, selection of late has me baffled. I am not sure why we are playing Blair, when there a number of better, younger alternatives in the 2's. Crocker should come in for him next week.

Freo are very much beatable. If Sandilands plays, it is a 50/50 game. If he doesn't play, we will win comfortably.

I read with interest the comments about Moore being our only key forward target. Terry Wallace had this to say during the week, I will paraphrase. Collingwood took a long time this season to get their forward line structure right, but they did against Hawthorn. In the earlier rounds, Collingwood played a player as their 2nd forward that is not good enough, White, and then played a player as their 2nd forward who is not at AFL standard yet, Cox. They were trying to create something that isn't there, so it is far better to play a smaller forward line and play a smaller player that is going to have a much bigger impact on the game. As a result, the forward line will and did function far better.
Just wondering which of our small forwards does better job than Cox and White. Blair? Fasolo? And of course Terry Wallace would know. He did a great job as Richmond coach didn't he? Considering how good our forward line now is without Cox and White, I'm wondering why we didn't kick 50 goals considering the number of forward entries we had.

We went back to what we have been doing for the majority of the year so far. Luckily for us we were only playing the bottom team.

Still have structural problems that haven't been fully addressed....

Rapt to see Shaz out there and playing well.

Maybe you weren't watching the early rounds when white and cox both played as second forward and they contributed 2/5ths of bugger all. Our forward line has looked more potent in last 3 weeks and we have been able to lock the ball in our forward 50 much more using the smaller forwards tackling pressure.
People forget that our last premiership was only 2010 and rebuilds take some time. 2018 we play finals again.

At the end of the day, we had 39 scoring shots - dominated stats, kicked poorly at times, played some ordinary passages, played some brilliant passages, had a couple of players that are not up to AFL standard, and won the game. The problems I see: Fasolo - needs to be dropped - he is lost at the moment and needs to go back to the VFL and learn his position and role; Blair - been a silent supporter of his but today his form was at times, sub standard - based on form - back to the VFL to prove his worth and earn his spot again - he has done so already this season so let him earn his spot same as every other player should/does. WHE - needs to do more noting reputation and hoohar about how good he is - if form does not improve - back to VFL and earn his way back in. Note - dropping someone back to VFL is conditional that someone in VFL team is showing enough form to play AFL. Next - Sidebottom - can be so good and so bad - his disposal at times is awful and has and will cost goals if not fixed. Is he any worse at clangers than anyone else - my opinion is yes - but I will let those with fact/data tell the real story. Are we going to make finals - who knows. But I do hope so. I think we are only one player (KPP - forward) away from a top 4 team if we play best footy.

I agree with Wallace, as does the reigning premiership coach, who this week dropped two key forwards in Cloke and Redpath, so he could play a smaller, mobile and dynamic forward line.

I have posted here before and will do so again now, the modern game is trending towards smaller, mobile players playing as talls both in attack and defence. Posters here need to start to recognise this fact.

Cox is a liability if he doesn't mark it, he can't put any pressure on the opposition and the ball continually rebounds out. Blair for all his flaws is the better option because at least he can pressure the opposition when the ball hits the ground.

White was stiff to be dropped after the St Kilda game. He had a good year last year and should be given another chance when his hammy is healed. However, he is not really a key forward and if he comes back in he should play as a high half forward and use his pace and agility.

The player that needs to be considered in a smaller, mobile and dynamic forward line is Mayne. He played as a 2nd tall behind Pavlich for a number of years at Freo. For mine he is a far better option than Cox or White.

Mason Cox has played 4 games this year for a grand total of 8 marks, Fasolo took 8 marks just today. He provided a good link up player coming up the ground using his mobility.

The solution some posters are crying out for has been tried and didn't stack up. I'm also tipping Cox laid bugger all tackles and likely just kicked 1 goal per game. Fasolo has him covered with one hand tied behind his back.

I agree with majority of your post with the exception of the Mayne call. Whilst I understand where you are coming from and that is the role he was recruited for his current form doesn't stack up.

I believe that good form in the VFL should be a prerequisite for promotion to AFL. On that basis, Crocker, Brown and possibly Daicos should be ahead of Mayne.

A win is a win we haven't had many this year so enjoy it, yes it was underwhelming and we should have buried them by a lot more. Adams and Treloar very good also Dunn did a lot right. Elliot showed he is class. Freo will be tough next week. Cox maybe gets a look in for blair.

Lots of dinky, nothing kicks
His dinky kicks are only beaten by Fas's horrendous kicking for goal in driving my stark raving mad.

The most uninspiring boring win so far this year! Get fair dinkum Pies and start playing a real mans brand of football. Holy mother they may as well play in netball skirts next week.
I love this club and I hold anyone in contempt who does not think it is worth fighting for.

It's a 45 point win where would kicking in front of goal was very poor at times. A game of contrast with some very good passages of play mixed with some dumb football. Let's make it 3 in Z Ros next week.
