It's embarrassing that the issue of gay marriage is still even being debated in this country in 2017.

The majority just want it to happen and don't see what all the fuss is about as allowing gay marriage will have zero affect on how we live our lives but will allow those who identify as LGBTI a happier one.

Honestly if you've relied on a lobby group to change you're mind to the positive about the issue of gay marriage then I feel sorry for you and your upbringing, conversely using a lobby group as the reason you will object to it is really just hiding your personal bigotry behind any weak excuse.

In reality only homophobes and/or conservative Christians/Muslims/Jews etc. have any issue with gay marriage.

The rest of us, the vast majority, don't see what all the fuss is about.

That was deep.

Who do you see in the mirror?

Trump, Leyonhjelm or Farage?

All beacons for enlightenment, diversity and empathy.

This is not the "gay marriage" thread. I don't really care much what people believe on that subject, provided they don't believe it because God purportedly turned up at their place and told them.

David wrote:Some people would say Court is the one acting like a bully here. Funny how easy it is to claim victimhood when you're on the same side as people who complain about left-wing "snowflakes" and professional victims.
Can you explain exactly how she is "bullying" anyone ? She expressed a view about not liking gay marriage and declining to patronise corporations who involve themselves voluntarily in the issue. She may on other occasions have said that gay sex is wrong in the eyes of her religion.

I've seen bullying and that is not it. On the other hand, the writing and publishing of hundreds (or maybe thousands) of threatening and abusive tweets does look a lot like bullying. So too does demanding the effacement of someone's name from a place that recognizes their professional achievements because they spoke views that you do not like. I wonder if the Noam Chomsky centres for linguistics will be safe once that principle is adopted ?

Though Margaret Court does not read this forum, I'd say postings stating tthat she has "scum" views and that "Conservatives should have been drowned at birth" forms part of a public context of bullying in response to her views as well.

Now Margaret thinks pro tennis is "full of lesbians" and transgender children are the work "of the devil" and the pro gay lobby is brainwashing us like the "Nazis and Communists".

Her open letter to Dellacqua arguably constituted bullying. The only saving grace is that her views are now so irrelevant that the power of such an act is considerably reduced. She also seems to consider herself the reincarnation of Anita Bryant.

There's opposing same-sex marriage and then there's using one's public platform to attack gay people at every opportunity. I'm sure you can tell the difference. My opposition to the name change is more out of Voltairian principle than any concern for her feelings; as far as I can tell she's earned everything she's copped.

Edit: and now insulting parents of transgender children too. Charming.

She's one person giving her personal opinion, that's not bullying. Dog piling on her, abusing her, threatening her and the venue with her name on it to intimidate them into changing the name is bullying.

She's probably convinced more people to be against SSM than any reasoned argument ever could, simply by highlighting the hypocrisy and violence of the left. Seeing young people aggressively abusing an old woman is pretty sickening.

The Margaret Court Arena was named after her tennis. I am against any name change. However to show how far we have come we should have high profile members of the gay community present any trophies at that arena.

Those people would be demonstrating a complete lack of comprehension of what Bullying is.

It's been well speculated over the years that a number of professional tennis players have been lesbians.

Whether that prominence is greater than what you'd find in the general public or even relevant is another matter entirely.

On the former I'd say possible, on the latter I'd say no.

So ..... let's go to Christian 20 twenty radio looking for a story

Talk about cheap gutter journalism. Dud they expect to hear people promoting gay marriage? Laughable.
