Yeah keep saying it Nearly

I watched the entire VFL game Saturday with especial focus on the young man. He was on the bottom of almost every pack . . . . . .

and almost without fail coughed up possession with a shocking handball that missed the target - regularly by a wide margin.

Love the wee man's endeavour but his disposal is an embarrassment.

Absolute bollocks. What has Blair done this season? Callum did more in his debut game than Blair has done all season.

agree about his endeavour at the contest but he has a tendency to hang on to the ball for far too long and hence gets caught holding it or coughs it up.

It's harder to take cause we had a LOT of excuses for loosing that game - the injuries, the Perth trip, Melbourne off the bye etc etc. BUT we played better footy than Melbourne and would've won if the umpires hadn't cheated. That's pretty obvious. The coaches need to look at the whole game and work out how to stop those stupid turnovers on our HBF that cost us goals (that was disappointing cause we've been much better about that recently) but I think we played pretty well apart from that. So did Melbourne after half time.

We could've lost it on merit, but we didn't. Very important game also - we'd be pretty happy being 6th right now, and by rights and merit we should be. That hurts. Still, Buckley can't say anything cause it's likely that game has (wrongly) cost his career, so he needs to save his money! We wont make finals now (due to the evenness of the middle of the ladder), but we've building nicely IMO. We'll play some good footy before the end of the year. We wont win unless we bribe the umpires though, by the look of it.

There will be some specific things Blair needs to work on to get back in the seniors - effective disposals, running to space, shutting down space. Things we don't even think about. He can get 43 touches all he likes, but until he improves on the things he needs to work on (that the coaches will have gone through with him) then he'll be in the twos. You and I wont even know when he's going to get promoted IMO. His task is harder given we should have a few back from injury after the bye.

We kicked 100 points, a big plus. The forward line structure is working well.

However, to give up 104 points was extremely disappointing. The reasons were three fold: 1) poor disposal, 2) poor decision making, 3) the umpires.

Melbourne kicked 6.6 in the first half. We gave them every one of their goals. 1st quarter Sidey poor disposal, Adams poor disposal and decision, and two dubious free kicks. Howe was stupid to put his hands anywhere near Watts, as Langdon had it covered, but have seen much worse not paid. The chopping of the arm free kick to McDonald was technically there, but there are hundreds of these not paid every game, so to pay one 25 metres out is charity. 2nd quarter Adams poor disposal and decision, Landgon fumble gave them the only two goals for the quarter.

A 23 point half time lead should have been at least double.

Third quarter we were smashed at the contest and then when it went into their forward line we found a way to stuff up and hand them goals or let the umpires hand them goals. That 50 metre penalty to Petracca was a joke, he wasn't sure he marked it and was appealing to the umpire for it to be paid, so Sidey tackled him in case it wasn't a mark. Lack of understanding of the game by the umpire.

Last quarter we were just holding on with most of the first half of the quarter played in their half of the ground. Goals to De Goey and Phillips were against the flow and if De Goey marks the Adams kick with a minute and a half to go, we could have snatched it.

The umpiring was abysmal, Melbourne were paid every 50/50 decision and we got none of our 50/50's and they missed a lot of blatant ones our way, especially the De Goey drag down in the marking contest inside 50 in the 3rd quarter. The holding ball decisions were perplexing, they just seemed to have to tackle us and it was a free to them. They definitely influenced the result of the game, but our poor disposal and decision making also played a part.

The positives today were it was the youngest side we put on the park all season and we generally held up well. Brown had limited touches, but he did not look out of place and a number of his touches and his body positioning positively influenced the game.

In the pre game thread, I posted that the result of the game was dependent on us executing our skills and making the right decisions under pressure and us making the most of Grundy's advantage in the ruck. For the most part, we did these things well in the first half, but we failed in all of them in the second half. Thus, although the umpiring was horrendous, if in the second half we execute our skills, make the right decisions and make the most of Grundy's ruck advantage, then we would not been in a position to allow the umpiring to have any impact on the result.

All in all, the first twelve rounds have had positives and negatives. For mine, 5-7 is the worst win loss ratio we could have from the football we have played. We could easily be 7-5 or even 8-4. We have played better in the first 12 rounds of 2017 compared to 2016, with our worse loss being 23 points, which shows we are going in the right direction. However, it is disappointing that we are still losing games through poor disposal and dumb decision making, so I am looking for an improvement in these two areas in the last 10 games of 2017. If we do this, we are chance of winning enough games to play finals, but in the grand scheme of things finals in 2017 are irrelevant. We want to win flags and we aren't going to win it in 2017, so the aim for the rest of 2017 should be to continue to develop Crocker, Ramsay, Broomhead, Maynard, Scharenberg Moore, Brown, Daicos, Aish, De Goey, as these guys together with Fasolo, Elliott, Hoskin-Elliott, Grundy, Langdon, Treloar and Adams are going to form the nucleus of our next side to make an assault on a flag.

So Mooretreloar fancy blaming the umps for such a loss.
Only the riff raff would do that.
We got beaten because we weren't strong enough or fast enough on the break.
Simple as that.
According to my brother we have lost 7 games by under 20 points.
This must be a record.
we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest.

He's been brilliant as usual. The other panelists are clearly in awe of him. He made it clear he wouldn't piss on Robbo if he was on fire. 8)

Proud of the boys. Absolutely disgusted in the umps. Funny on the day 4 corners reviewed the moonlight state corruption enquiry, they should initiate another royal enquiry into what happened today.

Absolutely.
This lack of 2 way running is a game killer for us.
I watched him fall off and his opponent carried on up the field , got it and drilled it into their forward line.
He is not Robinson Crusoe there - Adam Treloar can improve in his defensive running
Daicos, impossible angle ... Goal!
