Magpies, Swans chase Saint duo
By KAREN LYON and RICHARD HINDS
Two of St Kilda's biggest stars could leave Moorabbin at the end of this season, with Peter Everitt and Barry Hall firmly in the sights of rival clubs.
Collingwood yesterday said it would consider recruiting disgruntled ruckman Peter Everitt, while Sydney has already moved to bolster its list for next season by showing strong interest in out-of-contract St Kilda full-forward Barry Hall.
"I'd like Peter Everitt and a stack of other players," Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse said yesterday.
Malthouse said clubs, including the Magpies, would not start the trading process until the end of the year, but St Kilda's declaration that all its players would be reviewed after the season had promoted Collingwood's interest.
"It is far too premature to start looking to who is coming off lists at this stage but mind you, you are very mindful of it when a coach gets up and says there is no one sacred," Malthouse said.
"Well, your ears obviously prick up and you have a look at the whole list."
Although Everitt has two more seasons to run in his contract with the Saints, he placed doubt over his long-term future at Moorabbin last week when he said he would be reviewing his options for the future.
St Kilda's caretaker coach Grant Thomas - widely tipped to take on the job full-time from next year - has said the club will take on an extensive review of its playing list.
Collingwood president Eddie McGuire said: "Peter Everitt is playing for St Kilda at the moment. Neil Balme, Mick Malthouse, the match committee and Noel Judkins, our recruiting manager, will go through all available players with a fine-tooth comb once we get to the business end of the season."
It is believed the Magpies may be prepared to trade No.2 ruckman Steven McKee for the services of the 27-year-old Saint, who has played 165 games.
It is believed the Swans are one of several clubs who have inquired about the availability of Hall, who would follow the trail of Tony Lockett from Moorabbin to the SCG if a trade could be made.
There has been strong speculation that the Swans would use Lockett to convince Hall of the merits of a move from St Kilda to Sydney.
But Sydney football manager Colin Seery said the club had not approached any of its recruiting targets.
"Like every club we've got a list of players we might look at later in the year, but at this stage the specifics of who we might want to get haven't really crystalised," Seery said.
While Hall is certainly not in Lockett's class, the pair have several things in common. Besides playing full-forward for St Kilda, both are country boys who were initially reluctant to make a full-time commitment to the city.
And both have an aggressive style that has made them no stranger to the AFL Tribunal.
Two weeks ago Hall was suspended for three matches after he was involved in a series of skirmishes against Geelong.
Nick Cummins of Hall's management company Elite Sports Property confirmed that the 24-year-old was out of contract. But he said Hall would not begin negotiations with St Kilda, or any other interested party, until the end of the season.
"He won't be looking at doing anything, or even seeing what offers are on the table until then," said Cummins. "He's a valuable key-position player and obviously there is going to be some interest in his situation."
St Kilda football manager Brian Waldron would not comment on Hall's status.

Is that a serious article or a joke ?? I doubt StKilda would accept Mckee.....lol
My tip is Robert Harvey to Richmond to play under Spud......Daffy will be used in a trade for sure. I think Everitt is too much of a risk. However he did barrack for the pies as a kid. Maybe his motivation would improve playing for us and he would be unver a grear coach something he has NEVER had at StKilda.

McKee for Everitt...hehe
Collingwood, chase after Everitt, i believe he will play 10 times better at a new club, especially being at Pie-land.
He is the leader in the AFL in hit outs. We NEED a quality ruckman to take the pressure of Josh and develop him into a powerful CHF.
Chase him Pies!

McKee for Everitt !
Now we're talking. That's the sort of trade we should be making. McKee is obviously a top player. Hell, we gave up Clinton King to get him !!! So, why would St.Kilda knock him back?
As all the experts keep telling us ... you've gotta give something to get something.
Fair's fair.
McKee for Everitt ... YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!
Look ... I'm a fair man. Throw in our second round draft pick as well. Anything more than that would be an insult to Stunning Steve and to Collingwood.

That is the only explanation!
McKee for Spider would be the deal of the milenium for us. Then again O'Bree for nothing is hard to go past.
I will faint if St.Kilda take that deal. Despite his faults, Spider can play awesome footy. McKee cannot. I will still be happy if we throw in a couple of fringe players.
