The Dutch Reach - its a push bike thang!
Apologies for a new thread, I did a search, and the. Went back 8 pages, I'm sure there is a thread about car dooring cyclists.
This is such a simple fix from the Netherlands! Such a great idea!

Its a good idea, especially in the Netherlands where there are too many cyclists to swat. Im not sure how well the "Dutch reach" might work in a country where the average height of women is less than 6 feet 2, however.
What is really needed in the Netherlands is a Dutch cap, preferably one with lights and sonic warnings, to be worn by the speeding cyclists who, umbrella in one hand and mobile phone in the other, routinely threaten to total pedestrians on footpaths and in public squares.

id think the only thing stopping you reaching across from the other side of your body (ie your sitting in the right hand seat, use your left hand instead of your right hand to open the door, so you are forced to glance over your shoulder) would be an injury or a fat gut!

Oh, probably - i wasnt thinking through the ergonomics, just imagining that short arms might make it tricky, but also recalling that the Dutch are among the tallest people i've ever seen (and I'm 6 foot 2 or so) !think positive wrote:huh? why the height thing?Mugwump wrote:Its a good idea, especially in the Netherlands where there are too many cyclists to swat.
