Dublin Vs. Mayo All-Ireland Final: Can Mayo Break the Curse?

Post by pietillidie »

This is particularly for Morrigu, who has mentioned having family in County Mayo.

The Pies' premiership drought was bad enough, but Mayo hasn't won All-Ireland since 1951, despite eight final appearances since 1989:

Cheers PTID

Indeed I do but they are not Mayo folk our clan hail from County Tipperary.

That having been said we will all be cheering for Mayo as they are playing Dublin - boo hiss!!!

I'd love to see them win but not as much as I would love to see Dublin spanked :P

You been to see a game of gaelic footy live Ptid? I'm curious how it compares for atmosphere to Soccer.

Disclaimer, I have zero interest in soccer, wouldn't watch it if you glued my eyes open, but I keep hearing about how good the atmosphere is even if the on field spectacle is shite. I'd like to go to a game of Gaelic footy in Ireland.

It was a draw, BTW, folks, something Pies fans know a lot about! The crowd was going mental right to the end, after which you could've heard a pin drop.

Replay on Sat the 1st. Given their history, Mayo must be feeling like the Saints in their draw against us.

watch in an Irish boozer down the road... Mayo were a tad unlucky, though as their skipper said post match, they were way below par. Hopefully they'll do the business in two weeks!

Holy crap, a draw and then a one-point game. The grief in Mayo will run deep; what a contrast to the underdog victory yesterday:

Dublin 1-15 def. Mayo 1-14

Mayo had chances, and giving away the penalty was pretty stupid.

Bump,
We all noted the trials of poor County Mayo and the curse applied to them so that they can't win the All Ireland Football Final whilst any of their last winning team remains alive.
Remember how close they got last year - drawing the final and losing the replay to Dublin by one point!
That made 8 Finals losses & 0 wins since the curse was applied...

So Mayo make the final again in 2017 and it's a repeat of 2016 v Dublin. Surely this time the curse will break, nothing as crazy as the loss last year could possibly happen!?!

The game is tight & with 2 minutes to go scores are level. So now it's all set for history to be made and Mayo will finally finally win.....

Hang on it's a free to Dublin 40 meters out. He kicks and he scores a point. Siren goes.
Mayo lose the Final by a point again!!!!!! That's 9 now.
This curse is real!
