yeah ive got friends who have been to thailand for root canals, and boob jobs (the guys generally stick with the dentist work!) but its not for me! Hubby had all his top teeth out a few weeks back, his new ones should be here this week (thankgod, can you imagine? he cant talk properly and i cant hear properly!) havet got a bill yet, not game to ask! my dentist is pretty good though, very reasonable with the charges, lovely Indian lady, doesnt bullshit or do stuff you dont need.

if youve got pain David, get to the dentist, leaving it just makes it worse when you eventually get there.

I neglected my chompers for a fair while through my 20s and 30's until things started to go wrong in my early 40s. So I made sure the private health insurance covered dental and took the plunge.

Found a (very) good dentist, went in and asked if he could save them or was it time for falsies. He voted to save them and I'm glad I did. Would have spent $15k on them over the past 10 years including 2 root canals, couple of crowns and a veneer over the top ones, insurance has covered probably $9k of that.

I think free basic dentistry is the kind of thing a wise government should provide, rather than the self-aggrandising frippery in which modern government specializes.
Age and place. I believe only parts of the UK have (deliberately) fluoridated water. (Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is another question.)

On the title question, dental appearances are one way to tell Brits and Americans apart. (Presumably there are easier ways if you can get them to speak ;) .) Whether the actual health differs behind the US facade of straightening and bleaching is not entirely clear to me. And where Oz lies on the spectrum is another question.
