Turkish child marriage religious document sparks anger

It said that, according to Islamic law, the beginning of adolescence for boys was the age of 12 and for girls the age of nine. On the same website, it said that whoever reached the age of adolescence had the right to marry.

Turkey's main opposition party has called for a parliamentary inquiry after the directorate of religious affairs said that, under Islamic law, girls as young as nine could marry..

From Wikipedia, the Prophet's favourite wife, Aisha, was between 7-10 at marriage and between 9-12 when the marriage was consummated upon her reaching puberty.

There is a limit to how far I want to judge other cultures in their own lands and from outside their own historic traditions. Clearly some practices are barbaric, such as the slavery our ancestors practised, the rituals of the Aztecs, Suttee in India, or FGM today in many parts of Africa, etc. etc. But a culture which decides that marriages are arranged, and that girls are sexually mature enough to consummate a "marriage" at puberty (not before) is acting abhorrently to me, but not necessarily barbarically and unnaturally by any cultural standard.

Since I deeply object to the violation of our culture and evolved historical moral sense by people who assert an entitlement, or de facto willingnesss to import culturally aberrant practices here, I think it reasonable that I accept the same principle in other civilisations.

Just trying to point out the motivation and conundrum for the folks in Turkey who made this pronouncement.
If you believe that Mohammed was the perfect man, then it makes sense to think that marrying children is ok.
In fact, it would be very difficult to argue that marrying children is not ok.

Stabbing victim has been identified as a 24-year-old Japanese worker in Ireland
Knife attack happened shortly after 9am this morning in Dundalk, County Louth
Two others, who are Irish men, were attacked with iron bar in separate assaults
Police are working to establish whether the three were terror related and linked

London gets Muslim mayor, now tops in acid attacks
Exponential increase in horrific crime.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan is infamous for his declaration terrorism is simply "part and parcel of living in a big city."

Gun crime in London is up 15 percent.

Homicides are up 25%, including an explosion in youth homicide of 70%.

Robbery is up by more than a 33%.

The year 2017 ended with four fatal stabbings in London.

Knife crimes increased 30%.

Among the most terrifying crimes in London are acid attacks, which have soared exponentially since 2014. There were 431 such attacks record in 2016, and police report they have become the tactic of first resort for some gangs.

Acid attacks also seem to correlate to the large Muslim population in some areas of the city.

Parts of London have become "no go zones" for delivery drivers fearful of acid attacks. Drivers now stop work after the sun goes down, willing to accept a pay cut if it means avoiding the danger increasingly present on the streets of London.

Labour MP Stephen Timms claimed London now has more acid attacks per capita than any other city in the world.

It think your criticism of Mr. Khan is unfair.
He's way to busy with the important work of rolling out gender neutral toilets to worry about crap like stabbings, muggings and acid attacks.
