I think Maynard has a touch more aggression and toughness than Lonie.
At the moment his best position is clearly defence. He could develop into a quality mid, but it will take time to adapt. Even in the JLT we moved him between both positions, so I don't think the move is full committed and will depend on form, opponent and who we have available.
No De Goey, Greenwood ow Wills probably makes a midfield spot more likely for him in round 1.

Brief highlights reel of Brayden 'Junkyard Dog' Maynard executing some of his best moves against Melbourne last year.

A player with exceptional reaction speed in response to the ball and opposition players. And when he does react it is with ferocity. Truly a player to be feared.

Re: Magnificent Mighty Maynard
Remember Stan Magro, Joffa? Don't quite know why he jumped into my mind, but geez he was a tough and ferocious one. Maynard has the same character traits, but is capable of a little more magic I reckon. Just thinking of some of the beautiful goals on the run he has kicked in recent times. Would love to see him sneek down from the backline a lot more.joffa corfe wrote:I tipped three years ago this lad will become a modern day Collingwood legend, Copelands Brownlows Norm Smiths await this ferocious warrior
....Looks like something from our glorious machine 1920's era..I believe Magnificent Mighty Maynard is our typical robust tough black and white madman that belongs on the back line, He played down back in Moe and i couldn't help feel that's where he belongs scaring the shite out of all and sundry Tough can read the play good kick....Gotta love this bloke
Thoughts ?

Completely disagree. He showed more in one quarter vs Melb last year starting on the guts than he did his entire time costing us goals in defence.AN_Inkling wrote:I think Maynard has a touch more aggression and toughness than Lonie.

Maynard needs time in the guts in the chance tthat he can develop awareness and decision-making under intense pressure.
At the moment he's got good physical attributes, can be a damaging kick, but is a panic merchant when the pressure comes on. We need some of Pendle's matrix-like coolness to rub off on him.
Overall he's best 22, but I wouldn't call him magnificent just yet.

He is a tough player and a beautiful kick. As stated here his decision making is questionable at times which can lead to comical errors. I see a lot of promise but he still has a way to go to become a top player. If he and others continues to improve we are on the way to returning to the top 8
Daicos, impossible angle ... Goal!

why should his focus be on an individual award. Shouldnt his focus be on winning a flag? or making his team-mates (and the team as a whole) play better.BucksIsFutureCoach wrote:His whole focus should be on winning the Copeland trophy and he's good enough to do it, but he needs to play consistent footy to do it, which up till now he hasn't done. Treloar does it. Pendles does it. Swanny did it. Now it's up to him to do it.

Maynard is growing into one of my favourite players. It will be interesting to see whether the coaches keep him in defence, or whether they try to play him in the midfield on a more frequent basis this year.
He looked good in the middle when we played Melbourne in our final match last year but clearly he needs to keep building up his fitness to have any chance of playing midfield frequently, but he didn't look out of his depth in that role and I'd like to see us persist with it if we can.
Entering his fourth year now, I think he's tracking along well with his development and I look forward to seeing him make further progress and maturity.
