This is astonishing. A billion birds slaughtered by cats in less than 3 years.

I used to have a dog who looked a little like that. German Shepherd x Lab with maybe a touch of great dane in the genes. He could jump and take a stick out of my hand at full extension which is just about 2.4m.

He didn't like cats. After I had to send him to live with my parents up bush, he cleaned up the strays within about a block radius. Frequently when taking him for a walk, my dad would have to wrestle a dead cat from his mouth once they got home and put it in the bin.

^ And the square in the second pic is very straight-edged and two-dimensional looking. Not a very convincing job they did.

^ So your peace and quiet is worth more than billions of native fauna being killed, with species going extinct?

People actually can and do complain about barking, though I personally think this is only remotely reasonable if it's in the middle of the night.

Agreed. That's why you kill them humanely.

It also says something about how peoples reaction depends on cuteness and the perceived notion of pets.

I wouldn't see anyone up in arms about trying to eradicate cane toads, which are just another introduced species causing environmental damage, but not as much as cats.

^ With intelligence comes responsibility. Cats are relatively intelligent, so should they not also be held relatively responsible for the carnage?

But then this starts to get back to questions of evil...
