Feral cats are estimated to kill 750,000 birds a day in Australia, and council staff said the bounty came in response to "an exploding population" of feral cats hunting native wildlife.

Should we eradicate cats in Australia?

I used to have a dog who looked a little like that. German Shepherd x Lab with maybe a touch of great dane in the genes. He could jump and take a stick out of my hand at full extension which is just about 2.4m.
He didn't like cats. After I had to send him to live with my parents up bush, he cleaned up the strays within about a block radius. Frequently when taking him for a walk, my dad would have to wrestle a dead cat from his mouth once they got home and put it in the bin.

Agreed. That's why you kill them humanely.
It also says something about how peoples reaction depends on cuteness and the perceived notion of pets.
I wouldn't see anyone up in arms about trying to eradicate cane toads, which are just another introduced species causing environmental damage, but not as much as cats.
