There is no way they would trade Buckley as I see him with another 3 to 4 years left.
Sure he is going to decline, but this will be of more benefit to the side as young players learn to back their own judgement and not always play through Buckley.
We need another midfielder to ease the burden off O'Bree and Buckley. Fremantle's Heath Black would be ideal as he uncontracted and has indicated a desire to come back to Victoria.
We are going to have to give away quality to get him. The only player I can see as a potential trade for him is Licuira.
I agree he has had a great season and he is a ball magnet. But the main criticism I have of him is that for the position he plays, he hasn't got adequate foot skills.
He plays a loose man in defence and as a result is going to get a lot of ball. The trouble is that he rarely finds his targets.
Imagine if we had a skillful (by foot) as our quarterback/playmaker out of the backline.

Our Nathan Buckley

My poetic tribute to our captain:
The siren sounds, the Sherrin's bounced, a player grabs the ball,
And through the sea of arms and legs, a champion stands tall.
He has a bounce and looks around, for teamates free in space,
He sees no-one and time is scarce, his mind begins to race.
Another bounce, a twist and turn, the crowd watch in delight,
As their hero sees the goalposts, and then kicks with all his might.
A big drop punt flies off his boot, it looks destined for a score,
And sure enough, the ball goes through, the crowd all start to roar.
The flags are waved, the players jog, back to the centre square,
The opposition drop their heads, they wish that he was theirs.
But this man's ours, in black and white, he plays for Collingwood,
Compared to other players, Nathan Buckley's just too good.
As long as he is on the ground, the Magpie fans can hope,
They worship him the same way as some people do the Pope.
He's poetry in motion, with loads of style, poise and grace,
Add to that aggression, talent, courage, strength and pace.
He has no faults at all, although he came from Adelaide,
And constantly he demonstrates just how footy should be played.
And on the odd occasion when he hasn't played that good,
He's prepared to cop it on the chin, just like a champion should.
He performs the minor miracles that make good players great,
Whilst playing for the club that everybody loves to hate.
And when he hangs the boots up, I think it will be safe to say,
That Nathan Buckley was quite easily, the best that ever played.
(this is for any scumbag who needs reminding of everything Bucks has brought to our club and the loyalty he has shown. He is an absolute champion!)
