NBN is connected!!

Post by think positive »

Got a letter last week fromTPG offering a preorder deal. 3 different packages, i wont bother with the cheaper, because the max is cheaper than Telstra, which up until now had a monopoly on this area.
premium typical evening speed 78Mbps. $89.99 month 18 months contract, or plus $99.95 set up with no lock in contract.

my bundle currently has phone line internet and foxtel 2 boxes, 1 IQ, with sport drama and docos and its $195.20.

does anyone have a clue about this stuff? im flat out with other things and just trying to keep mentally stable right now, so any advice is good advice!

is NBN any good?

is the phone line ok? dont really care we mainly use mobiles.

will i be able to subscribe to foxtel separately?

is that a good speed and will it happen?

and most importantly, do i actually have a choice?

im not really happy with telstra, trying to get anything changed is pulling teeth with a screwdriver.

cheers

Feel Sorry for You Mate.

Only keep your Phone Line Thru the Modem.

I get 23mbps down and 12mbps down at Most

I tried Telstra and Optus and Found Telstra was Faster

If you switch carriers, you can either keep the foxtel through Telstra or go directly to Foxtel.

I'd call Telstra and see what the cost of the Foxtel is on it's own first, because you may not save much money (if any) from going to TPG for internet and having Foxtel separate.

See if Telstra can offer you a deal to stay to reduce the bundle cost below the two separate bills using the NBN network. They usually will deal to retain a customer.

I would love to have those speeds DTM! On average we get about 6mbps.
We had NBN come to our house again last week to test to see if we can get it but once again a negative result! The NBN network has been completed in my area and we unfortunately miss out! So you City folk continue your whinging about your slow speeds I feel really sorry for you! NBN was meant to help the people in the bush but they have F*@ked that up again!

You will have to change over, eventually the old service is withdrawn after 12 to 18 months, so theres probably no hurry. My NBN seems to be a bit slower - Im on the lowest speed - than ADSL, but its about $40 pm cheaper. Im with westnet, which is now iinet, (which is TPG). the customer service is pretty good and I don't get strange bills like friends who use telstra do.
Today Im trying to move my mobile service from Virgin to Westnet ($25 per month unlimited texts and calls, extra for internationals), but friggin Virgin won't go ahead until I verify my date of birth.
I pay separately for foxtel over the internet which works fine and don't have IQ etc. I and Im hoping the cheaper mobile deal with westnet will compensate for not getting the lot with Telstra, who I never want to deal with ever again (or virgin for that matter after today).
I have friends living a few ks away who can only get mobile, but I have heard good reports about the improved satellite service

Here's my problem...

Whatever the maximum speeds one may have, the actual use and program used seem to be a huge additional limit. Maybe if you just stream movies, all is well. (I don't know.) But if you try to copy files from a remote computer using [Win]scp, the download speed seems to be something like 10-100 kbps. (Yup, k, not M.)

I'm not aware of any other way to transfer files from a remote server/computer/account. Does anyone have any thoughts?

That's not a mobile phone. It's a stealthy fitbit.
