carlscum next!!!and best 5 pies of all time?

Post by ed healey »

I would like us to play finals, but if we dont a win over carlton would be lovely.
When moses wrote down the commandments it was love your neighbour unless it is carlton.
Thow shalt not kill unless its a carlton fan or player.
thou shalt not steal unless its from a carlton fan or player.
etc but poor old moses didnt know about carlton so left those words out in the final draft copy.
I hate only one thing in life and carlton is all of them>>..
and from a post in hotrods board who are the best 5 pie players in your lifetime?
some of us old farts have more to pick from than you young guns.
1 john greening
2 len thompson
3 nathan buckley
4 peter daicos
5.tony shaw
best coach tom hafey.

1 Peter Daicos
2 Nathan Buckley
3 Darren Millane
4 Peter Moore
5 Bill Picken

I also thought Craig Davis was a pretty good player (Nick looks like he might be better!). And I know there's heaps I've missed, like Brown and Shaw...oh well!

Selected from my pie watching days and based on impact on a game, ability to win a game off their own back, skills and toughness. Daicos for me was simply spectacular to watch - whenever he went near the ball something would happen.

Ok I don't know if this is the best 5 in my lifetime but they're my favourite 5

1. Daicos
2. Tarrant
3. Presti
4. Millane
5. Denis Banks (only coz he hit Rhys-Jones)

Apologies to Peter Moore. He was a champ and if only he'd hit Rhys-Jones 5th place would've been his

Darren Millane..Tough and skillful, collingwood through and through.

Nathan Buckley..The most skilled captain at collingwood i have ever seen.

Peter Daicos..Freak im grateful that in my lifetime i saw this guy play football won a lot of games for collingwood.

Phil Carman..I saw this guy stand on graeme moss's shoulders at vicky park when i was a youngster the thing is before the ball came down phil carman was only standing 2 feet behind him phil carman was a freak.

Stan Magro..tough back pocket player and was only a midget but this guy was tough as bricks was rarely beaten and he himself took out some of the biggest names in football.

Apologies to Kevin Worthington i loved this guy to death he was ur old fasdhioned tough full back he also was rarely beaten.

DONT BRING A KNIFE TO A GUNFIGHT...sean connery...the untouchables !!...DARREN MILLANE SIMPLY THE BEST...BETTER THAN ALL THE REST #42..GO OUR GLORIOUS BLACK AND WHITE MAGPIES FOR EVER UNTIL DEATH!!

Billy Picken was my fav.
The best I've seen are probably Daics and Peter Moore. Bucks will be there by the time he finishes. Ricky Barham would have been there if he had hamstring transplants in the 1978 pre season. Bob Rose is rated very highly by the old timers but I never saw him play. Unfortunately I saw him "officiate".

As for coach:
Hard to go past Jock, but Tommy Hafey was the best and the worst in my time. He got everything out of the players but also bored them eventually. He also got them from last to first in 1997, but then flogged the players on the track before the replay and they were flat - cost us a flag.

Make the 1977 not '97.
And Millane would have been one of the all time greats had he been a bit more sensible.
