The Age is now reporting that Bret Walker has issued an advice to the ALP to the effect that Dutton might not be qualified to remain in Parliament. This is an interesting (or, if you prefer, reasonably hilarious) development.
The petition apparently has "about 9" signatures on it. Given that they need 43 to generate a spill, that might explain why the knives remain sheathed this evening.

Who is Bret Walker?
He's one of the country's most eminent Silks. To put his career in context, he was similarly eminent when the present Solicitor-General was doing his undergraduate degree.
What should, and what actually does, happen to people who contravene Acts of Parliament in any way (which, as with the citizenship stuff, is what I assume "not qualified to remain in Parliament" means)? I mean, what, if anything, is the penalty for contravention of an Act of Parliament, apart from stopping doing so?

FFS, I've liked to it twice, try reading. It's to do with section 44(v) and the changes in funding since July
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.
Well, the article you linked to on p.1 just mentions ""his place shall thereupon become vacant" (and nothing else, I think), which is just "stop doing so"..., which some might feel is no penalty at all.
