I got locked out trying to log in to bet on that as they've changed the log in procedure since I was last there. :x
I think it's a fair reflection that anything can happen in situations like these. There are plenty of precedents of leadership contenders pulling out at the last minute, and keep in mind that Morrison hasn't actually come out and formally declared his candidacy, so he still has an out. A lot is going to depend on what's happening behind the scenes, and whether Morrison feels he has the numbers to win, which may still be up in the air next morning.

Think you'd get better value for money betting on Collingwood's Round 23 lineup than who exactly will be running for the prime ministership tomorrow afternoon.

jesus, in the time it took to get my account unlocked, the market has changed

Bishop is now $1.72
Dutton $2
Sco Mo $5

Abbott is in to $10

^ I'm honestly astounded by that.

Thing is, Bishop is by far the best candidate of the three, and the one who the public is most likely to get behind. But do you know who else is a more credible and popular candidate than either Dutton or Morrison? Malcolm Turnbull. If this was about electability and not factional moves / petty personal vendettas, this spill wouldn't even be happening. So I don't see why they'd suddenly get behind someone who's wedded to Turnbull both ideologically and historically (in terms of backing him in the last spill).

I scored a $10 bonus bet, so I put it on Bishop.

All we need next is for Penny Wong to get one of the knives Shorten has used to stab PM's in the back, whack it in his and (after she moves to the house of reps) we have 2 chicks in charge

^ Doubt that'll happen now. Labor leadership rules now make it pretty damn difficult to kill a leader mid-term, and they don't really have a strong motivation with pretty strong poll figures and the Libs imploding. If Labor lose the next election, though, Shorten will get the boot for sure, and then it'll be on for young and old.

It's going to be interesting.

Unlike Jezza, I think the Liberal Party can't afford to lurch further right. If they do, they'll be unelectable. They need a moderate in charge with the guts to put the far righters back in their box.

The unions, which represent a small minority of working people, have grown in voice and control in the Labor party which bothers me. Shorten has proved to have no principles at all and if he's PM the country will effectively be run by the ACTU which should frighten every sane person.

We need a moderate government, right of centre economically and left of centre socially (but only just in both cases) that will support business to grow employment and the economy to the benefit of all, while still looking after the social issues and basics. Giving the far right, far left or unions the keys to The Lodge will just send us all to hell in a handbasket.

Malcolm says the voters will be crying out for an election after the shenanigans:

And a couple of opinions on how well the Libs will fare out of this: https://www.theage.com.au/politics/fede ... 4zzdz.html

To Labor's credit, they have actually put party rules in place to stop these shenanigans from happening on their side. So, right now, they can justifiably be pointed to as the more stable option.

to Labor's credit?

Krudd put those rules in place, after he was knifed by Shorten to install Gillard, who was then knifed by Shorten to bring Krudd back, who was then knifed by Shorten despite the rules as they were in opposition then.

I'm waiting to see if little Bill has the bare faced balls to claim the new PM has blood on their hands when Parliament resumes.
