Regarding May or Beams. In my view we should only ever be paying one KPD star money. Same goes for KPF though to a lesser extent. You need to spread your stars across the field with midfield always having priority. Not sure I can think of a team paying star money to more than one KPD. Melbourne potentially if they sign May to join Lever.
The re-signing of Moore means that he is that star player going forward. We need to pair him with a hard-nosed defender on a moderate contract. May would have been good but I expect his contract demands would have been too high and up near star money.
I think we have enough possible Moore pairings in 2019 to not have to over extend ourselves in looking for one this trade period. Dunn, McLarty, Roughead, Reid, Goldsack, Langdon, Scharenberg are all possibles even if some are only short term and non ideal. After 2019 we'll have more of an idea of the level Moore is going to reach and whether his body will be a continuing problem. Then we are in a better position to know if it's necessary to add a defender on big money. My strong belief is it won't be as Moore is going to be elite.

I think May was only realistic if Moore was leaving. When he decided to stay our need for a KPD and our capacity to deal for May were both reduced significantly. We weren't going to force one of our top players out to bring in May to pair with Moore. That would have been a big mistake.

I'd prefer May myself but as I've already pointed out above, we'd lose something more then our pick 18killer wrote:Can we get a poll?
Beams vs May
Maybe we should have a poll Beams vs May - but the may option should include an accompanying name of who we're also trading out
eg.
Beams vs May in /pick 18 & Thomas out
" vs May in /pick 18 & WHE out
" vs May in /pick 18 & Maynard out
" vs May in /pick 18 & Crisp out
" vs May in /pick 18 & Adams out
See a pattern here? As someone here already mentioned, it'll be a mistake and destabilize our current culture.
It's not going to work and that's why the club has already decided on Beams
All Aboard!! Choo Choo!!!

We get Roughead we don't need to pay a mint for May.
I can't believe that Melbourne want to effectively trade Hogan for May.
We don't need Beams either but another mature quality mid (as opposed to continually recruiting HBF players) can't hurt. Makes the young mids on the list fight hard for a spot for a couple of years until they're ready to kick arse.

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.
