What, specifically, are you pretending has changed?

In fact, the only change of any significance is that union elections are now conducted by the Australian Electoral Commission instead of by the unions themselves. Bit of a distinction without a difference in the majority of cases, but now even rusted-on union-haters like S. Magpie can't pretend that they are not open, free and fair.

With over 1 million votes already done you would expect the result to be known pretty early. I am hoping the voters have wised up and vote below the line in marginal seats. I prefer a majority Government for the ALP this time around rather than a minority one. I do not want the NRA or as we call them Fisheries and Wildlife Party having any say on policies. If the win is as the polls predict I expect massive fallout within the LNP. Popcorn tonight and it may be the first election results I have watched in a while.

I do hope Liberal Neil Angus gets returned, a small L liberal and very hard worker.

No argument the gun lobby is putting in money, I'm still waiting to see anything remotely factual about their agenda

Allegedly they want to relax our gun laws, but their website doesn't reflect that and I've seen nothing else to support it.

The Gun Lobby are only giving money to conservative parties because they wish to see a true and vibrant democracy in Australia.

They should GTFO of Australia. We need Amreican style funding of politics like we need pedophillia.

So the gun lobby should GTFO but it's fine for the unions to pump money into Labor?

Personally, I'd much prefer to have a beer with people who go hunting than CFMEU members.

Who you have a beer with is up to you. However backing from overseas arms industry vs local unions? Where's the flaw in that argument?

The history of Australian Politics is a history of Labour v anti labour parties; the latter in various forms.

As we both known the ALP was formed from the Union Movement, why shouldn't unions then not support the ALP?

The conservative side of politics was never started from nor have been funded by overseas arms industry (as far as I know).

The overall point however is we don't want American style funding and politics in Australia. Our flawed system is a hell of a lot better than their flawed system.

If I wanted more opportunity for guns to enter our country, if I wanted a weakening of John Howards courageous gun law legislation, if I want more killing by guns then yes I too would want back the gun lobby but I don't think I'd want to have a beer with them.

I think it's gunna take some time to count those early votes although they'll be starting well before 6pm tonight. Scrutineers are allowed in to the early count but are not allowed to take mobile phones in with with them according to the ABC psephologist Antony Green.

I can vote at the community centre 100m from my house, which is the easiest to get mum to, but they've never had a bbq there in 30 years.

Pity they can't set up polling booths in Bunnings.

Done our visit to the local democracy sausage outlet (local primary school).

No queue, had a chat to a few friends who were also there.
Purchased hedgehog slice from cake stall for morning tea and partner & 21 year old had their sausage with onion.

Too easy.

Ditto, except as expected, no sausage.

Took the old girl for a walk through the park to the community centre and back. Total time taken to vote, including travel time, 10 minutes and it only took that long cos mum walks so frigging slow.

You have a 1960's view of unions, things have changed.

The biggest change is that union membership has hit record lows across the workforce.
