Beats me... the polar vortex thing must have them excited about global warming... oh hang on global cooling, or, yeah, what happened?

Can't be that. These Polar Vortex's are a natural event, last one was only 4 years ago. They're caused partly by warmer air from land drifting north and dirsupting/ displacing some of the cold arctic air, pushing it south.

Considering even the climate scientists are saying that it's possible that global warming may be contributing to the frequency these events occur increasing, I'd hardly say this even is a slam dunk that we're all rooned.

It's also possible that these polar vortex's frequency is increasing is due to the earth being geologically due for another ice age (or glacial period) very soon and this is exactly how they start.

He can't be referring to the hot weather we're having, it's summer time, this happens in Australia.

Can't be the storms in Townsville either, as the tropical north cops this kind of shit every year. (hopefully some of the water finds it's way through the darling river system on it's way to flooding Lake eyre)

This does seem to depend on the presumption that the "sceptics" will ever admit that they were wrong or that any clear evidence could ever convince them of that fact.

"Sceptics" is an interesting term.

There are people who flatly deny that burning fossil fuel which increases the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere has any impact on the climate. These people are clearly intellectually challenged and should be treated gently but firmly. They can't help it if they're stupid.

There are people who accept that increasing levels of CO2 have a greenhouse effect leading to global warming, but are sceptical of the wild histrionic claims made by people who have NFI but believe with the passion of a religious zealot that we're all rooned unless we replace coal with Liberal party politicians in the power plants.

There are people who just don't give a shit. Weather is weather, winter is cold, summer is hot, meh.

There are people who believe that climate change dues to global warming is real. They don't understand how it works, but they don't understand how their TV works either, let alone their kettle. They just accept it and try to do there bit, put solar panels on their house, walk to the shops when they only need a couple of things, etc/

There are people who believe with the passion of a religious zealot that burning fossil fuel is not just causing global warming, it's causing the end of days, the apocalypse, summoning the 4 horsemen and ending civilisation as we know it. These people are clearly intellectually challenged and should be treated gently but firmly. They can't help it if they're stupid.

Little chance of that I'm afraid, the climate change zealots are too far gone to pay attention to sense, they just go with the prevailing tide.

Global warming was a name coined by journalists, not scientists. Scientists generally became concerned in the 70s (and before that) when they started measuring the impact of deforestation in the Amazon and the loss of oxygen in the atmosphere. The CSIRO started predicting that initially there would be more extreme weather events but overall, the trend would be hotter and drier. So far these predictions have been correct. At the time tree planting on a large scale was seen as part of the solution, (also for the Murray Darling) but not much has happened in that regard even though decades have passed. The zealotry of believers and deniers is not helping, nor is the fact that our standard of living is perceived by many be dependent on activities that are adding to the carbon load.

There was far less arctic sea ice during the Roman and Medieval warming periods, both periods that were warmer and more prosperous than today.

None of the computer modelling has panned out, none of the doomsayers predictions have come true, the climate change industry has shown to be full of liars and frauds but we're meant to listen to the models and predictions this time around because... reasons?

Looks like that 10-12 years to avert catastrophe just keeps getting reset every time until those pushing this agenda get what they want.

Believe what you want to believe, I prefer to act and if all these scientists are wrong then so be it. By the time any theory may turn into reality I and many others will be dead, so I can see why people don't give a toss and deny everything presented to them.

I do like how we are so advanced that we can now polish a turd, coal is now miraculously now become clean coal.

Fluctuations in climate and the natural disasters that they bring about have, of course, occurred throughout human history. It's when these fluctuations are hitting new upper extremes and frequency that we have a serious problem.
