Looks like this game is unfolding as I feared it would.
People shouldn't be to surprised as our VFL form always appeared woeful in the preseason and only continued into the regular season when we barely got over the line against Coburg who won 1 game in 2018.
The reasons for today would be varied and range from loss of solid VFL performers in the off season (Hore, Borthwick, McLarty etc), injuries to some of our more promising junior talent in Sier, Murphy, T.Brown and Appleby, relying on two raw Irish imports to provide key position depth, loss of Dunn, insisting on using Goldsack up forward (not sure about today) and an overall injury list 4 or 5 deeper than the Essendon opposition.
Given we often see a correlation between a strong VFL team and successful AFL season it is a bit of a concern but we now have a rather long injury list again and it would appear our depth isn't as adequate to cover for it at VFL level this season for some of the reasons outlined above.
