GoT

Post by Presti35 »

Another random subject for today.

Game of Thrones.

Bit of debate going on about the popularity of this show. Do you watch it religiously, do you watch it casually or do you not watch it at all?

Where does it rank amongst greatest tv shows ever? Is it up there with MASH, or Friends, or Scienfeld, or is it in its own category?

One of the online comments suggested that some people should go back to the Brady Bunch if they cant handle it... Got a lol from that.

Never seen an episode! Would it be fair to say that it's very good at what it does, but that it nonetheless suffers from the general limitations and conventions of the fantasy genre, like the Lord of the Rings films did? Or is it more than just a very good fantasy show?

Saw some Brighton bozo on the ABC during the "transport crisis" after an elderly woman was killed by a train . "I am upset because I wanted to see Game of Thrones". Yeah well the woman probably wanted see the news and weather you pillock.

^ Never felt frustrated about being late to something because of a train running someone over? Perspective is important, but I also suspect he was merely voicing the sort of thing most people would be thinking in such a situation.

I've been pissed off before at Train delays due to someone getting splattered, but I wouldn't voice it on a TV or radio interview. Feeling annoyed is one thing, voicing it would be the height of insensitivity.

In regard to GoT, I read all the books before the TV series started, then just couldn't get into the series. Stuff just wasn't how I'd visualised it. I think I got half way through episode 2 or 3, season 1 and haven't watched any since. I have a box set of seasons 1 to something out the back, I might take it up bush and try again now that sufficient time has passed.

It was amazing while they had GRRM's source material to work from, but when it passed the books the writing went down hill very fast. All they had to work with was a general plot outline of 2 books that are going to be 1000 pages or so each.

Still a quality show, great production values but the change in sophistication of storytelling was stark.

What a tragedy that Benioff and Weiss have totally ruined Game of Thrones for me with this truly awful final season.

So now my watch is over and sadly I shall never watch it again.

Makes the books worth buying at least to see how GRRM gets there. The show went from masterpiece to fingerpainting.

As soon as they announced they were only committed to 13 episodes across the final two seasons HBO should have stepped in and removed dumb and dumber.

Clearly the were more interested in moving on to their next project in the Star Wars franchise.

I haven't even read the books and yet could quite easily identify the period from season 5 onward when they no longer had the rich source material to work from. Their original work was a poor copy in comparison.

Their downfall started with just awful dialogue that sounded like it was written by a couple of horny teenagers ("you want a good girl but you need the bad pussy") followed by the deletion of a book character and the shoehorning of Sansa into the Ramsay Bolton story arc which made no sense for her character IMO.

The whole Ramsay Bolton character I just hated as he felt one dimensional, a comic book villain without depth and it didn't feel true to the GOT world (at least in the television show). Sadly he was just the forerunner to the even worse character of Euron Greyjoy.

Fast forward to seasons 7 and 8 and the intrinsic world that had been developed for these fleshed out characters no longer felt the same, they writers no longer respected time and distance culminating in the ridiculous Gendry run to the wall, it all felt to rushed and this coupled with inferior writing talent lead to the disaster that was the final season.

This is an excellent youtube channel. They get it.

This is an epic and hilarious rant video about episode 3.
