The USA Government have not learnt any lessons from the revelations of Watergate and the My Lai massacre.
I was talking to 3 Americans last night and despite 2 being Trump supporters etc they all agreed that the sins of Government and the Military should not be grounds for punishing those that exposed it.

Annoying opposition supporters since 1967.

"The British, Australian, Ecuadorian and US Governments have made an ad about Julian Assange’s arrest and it’s surprisingly honest and informative."

Personally, I'd prefer Judges to be sticking to facts and precedents rather than making judgements on personalities that they're unqualified to makeJudge Michael Snow said Assange's claim that he had breached his bail conditions because he could not expect a fair hearing in the UK was "laughable".
"His behaviour is that of a narcissist who cannot get past his own self-interest," Justice Snow said in his judgment.

Assange has been charged with 17 offences under the espionage act, some of which can entail the death penalty:

Anyone who cares about journalism and freedom of information must protest this.

Interesting. Yeah, I know it's Wikipedia but some info on the Espionage act.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espionage_Act_of_1917
On one hand, by obtaining info related to defence and providing it to someone who shouldn't have it (the public) there's an argument that he has breached it.
On the other, Espionage almost by definition comes with some intent to hinder defence operations. I'm not sure if that's so clear cut.
Also interesting that the act has been in constant battle with freedom of speech.
It's going to be interesting how the US approach this, Assange had almost diminished into a parody of himself and lost the public interest. This has the potential to stir things right back up again.

When I was working with Defence we were warned not to read wikileaks when all this stuff came out. Not sure how they would know and what the penalties would be. The Intelligence Corps were up to their arse in alligators trying to find out if Australian interests were exposed. They have completely let Assange down as a citizen.
