Thought I'd start off with a puzzle question. Whoever get's it right can do the next one.

The correct answer is the one the poster has in mind when posting, so if you find a different one on Google, stiff bikkies.

My question, during WWII 2 Australian soldiers were driving down a New Guinea track, in opposite directions toward each other. The met at an intersection where both wanted to turn down the same track toward base. One turning left, the other turning right.

The both stopped at the intersection and gave way to each other, sitting there waiting for the other to go first.

Why?

Something to do with the old northern and southern colonial halves of modern-day Papua New Guinea driving on opposite sides of the road? I’m guessing the German half would have driven on the right and thus give way to right-turning traffic?

Nope, the clue is "2 Australian soldiers"

Another clue, David was somewhat on the right track, one of the 2 drivers is a Victorian.

The one turning left would give way if he was victorian; Give way to the right was a Victorian road rule thing; something to do with trams. It was abolished in 1993 to bring it line with other states.

We have a winner. The bloke wanting to turn left was a Victorian who had to give way to the guy turning right, the guy turning right was from elsewhere in Aus. Stupid road rule that almost got me in a few accidents when I first moved to Melbourne from NSW.

in the theme of confusion:

Its 1997 a Pommy and an Aussie swap jobs in a computer office; there is an electrical fire, who is most likely to make the worst choice in what fire extinguisher to use based on its color code?

I'm guessing (after a google check) that It's the Aussie as he's more likely to use water based on the different colour codes?

Although, since we adopted the same standard as Europe in 97, it could depend on when in 97

Right and wrong; correct as in 1997 all extinguishers were moved over to the EU standard of red body with a colored band indicating its usage, however the color banding standards stayed in accordance with the local standards; this is the problem.


let me explain:
in Australia a blue band indicates a Foam extinguisher: to be used on class A and B fires, but dangerous if used on electrical fires.

In the UK a blue band indicates a dry chemical extinguisher, (in Australia that would be indicated by a white band.) Dry powder can be used on electrical equipment.

So the Pommy is out of luck as he would have a 50% chance of grabbing a blue band extinguisher and doing what Pommies often do and make things worse. The Aussie would steer clear of the blue one and grab the black band C02 extinguisher.

the answer to the first riddle is a mountain, I remember that from the Hobbit.

ok, here's is another one and I wont give the answer this time.
