Wow what a brilliant player and a wonderful person. Will be sadly missed by all in the Australian sporting community. They'll be in mourning down at Geelong, and with genuine reason.
VALE Polly. One of the greats. Perhaps the greatest indigenous player, but certainly one of the great players of all time.

In the early 60s, I headed out to Queen's Park (Highton, Geelong) for my before work round of golf.
Nobody around so I teed off. Whilst putting, on the second, I noticed a big bloke ready to hit off. He played the hole fairly quickly and approached me, on the third tee. It was Polly Farmer.
He asked if he could play through. I preferred that we play the round together. He said he played pretty fast but ok. I felt obliged to warn him of my allegiance to Collingwood. He just smiled.
Lovely bloke. We didn't talk much but he DID applaud my few good shots.
