IIRC Obama self identified as "Mixed Race", it was the media and others, both left and right who declared him "Black"

I have NFI how Michelle self identifies

Race IS a big deal in the US and has been since before the Civil War

Just because these stupid and totally ignorant Amerian fools say its a big deal does not make it right dude. Have the balls to challenge and confront them at all times. I do this every time I hear such absolute claptrap in a conversation.

Can someone intelligent tell all these bloody American dumbasses that we all belong to the human race? Thats right, ONE race called the human race. Then all these bloody bigoted fools can separate various people into catogories of whatever floats their leaking boats :x

FMD, I'm a coloured South Asian born naturalised Australian belonging to the human race. Proud to be all of that

Nothing curious at all.

My original quote (which seems to have pushed buttons with you) was in relation to the prospect of the two ex-president's wives competing to becoming president themselves: "black Obama wants his dynasty created where the white Clinton failed".

The obvious point of difference in colour. And in the US this is a major electoral issue (go ask MLKj).

(Me thinks your self-loathing for your own white skin is driving you to box a shadows. )
i don’t have any self-loathing about anything. I’m perfectly content with myself and probably on the smug side. I was teasing out what I felt was a genuine question. You could perhaps cut out the swiping - if I want psychoanalysis, I’ll pay for it.

Lazza Mate, don't shoot the messenger.

The Black / White thing in the US is real and mainstream and comes from left and right.

Media refers to the Black vote

We had the hashtag Black Lives Matter

That's not even touching on the Hispanics.

I've seen black street performers in Vegas taking the piss out of white tourists with clear racial jokes, some self deprecating some not

Right, wrong or indifferent, when you're talking about the USA, race is part of the deal.

Blacks were imported as slave labour
They're over represented in poverty and crime statistics and under represented in high earning jobs and they're collectively pissed about it, understandably so. They own the term "Black" the same way homosexuals own the terms "Queer" and "Gay".

Their culture is not the same as ours.

Confusing stuff, Lazza. On the one hand you say "we all belong to the human race? Thats right, ONE race called the human race."

And on the other hand you say in complete contradiction: "I'm a coloured South Asian born naturalised Australian belonging to the human race. Proud to be all of that"

"All of that"? Did you mean to say "All if it", instead. Because you can't claim that there is only one race and that you are proud to be part of it, and in the next breath say you are also a proud to be a South Asian.

You haven't thought your place in the world through have you. That's okay. Good luck

(Anyway, this thread is about the 2020 election in the US - perhaps best to vent over real and imagined racism in a thread of your own)

My vent was aimed at the bigoted Amercans, not you.

Yes I have lived in the States and I know that race is a big thing there. My point is that it shouldnt be but they dont think my way.
