Dayne’s deal with the lions was far more lucrative than the one he signed with us
We gave up 2 x 1st round picks for a reason
The lions paid a decent chunk of his salary for the first 2 years (around $450k a season)
So basically he’s on 4 years $1.1 million on our books about $275k a year which for what was a top 10-20 player in the league was massive unders
The lions wanted draft picks for Neale trade and they had cap room with many young players in early low contracts
As for the crash I haven’t spoken to Dayne but did speak to Claye and he said Dayne was fine but embarrassed over it
Claye believed Dayne will play football again and hopefully that’s at afl level with us
thanks for posting, i can imagine these threads are very hard for you to read.
i didnt know about the monetary deal, have to admit that makes it a lot better in my mind, an absolute bargain, especially if it pays off.

re the crash, thats good to hear, i guess it could be murphys law, it all just keeps happening. hopefully he finds a way to full health. not sure footy would be the right place to do that, mental stress doesnt need extra stress, i know how long i was fragile for after i lost my Mum. i really hope this works out for everyone, but his health is the most important thing.
in saying that, do we need closure? its a hard one. cheers

Who dares wins. We lost, this time. Luke Ball could have been a loss too, but he was a win.
Get back on top.

Exactly my point. Been way too much navel-gazing over this trade. If we had won a flag with him nobody would mention it, unless to say it was a stroke of genius

I've heard the club is quietly looking at paying out Beams's contract and moving on.

So why take the gamble, for a fair tale ending? Terrible decision that even if he was still playing we gave up way too much.

Um big difference. Dont think we traded out 2 first round draft picks for Ball.

I think the quicker the club gets a deal struck with Beams over his departure package the better, we have to get our key signings done and dusted early(ish).

We simply can not afford to let them drag too far into the season, they become that great distraction that the media will feast on.
