Well, just to put the latest figures in context, the US spread of COVID-19 is worse, on a population distribution basis, than China's. China's population is presently about 4.3 times as large as the US population but China only has about 3.3 times as many confirmed cases as the US does. Since we know that US testing has been poorly rolled out and that numbers have been artificially suppressed as a result and we also understand that China's figures have peaked and are declining, whereas the figures in the US continue to increase exponentially, it is looking like the US response so far may well have condemned that country's citizens to - quite literally - the worst outbreak of COVID-19 in the world.

No doubt that is somebody's fault other than Trump's, too.

Trump issued a travel ban on China in late Jan/early Feb and was called a "racist" for doing so by multiple media outlets. Though I agree that Trump should have done more earlier on than downplaying the seriousness of this disease, but many leaders across the world downplayed this up until a few weeks ago.

At the end of the day, I blame China and the CCP for this catastrophe. They have blood on their hands for what they've inflicted on the world and what's going to happen to the world economy in the coming weeks and months. Winnie the Pooh and his party have to answer to the world one day.

If China wasn't stupid enough to cover up the spread of the disease for the first six weeks and actually listened to the warnings of their doctors, a lot of pain we're experiencing now would have been avoided. They are culpable for the world crashing and burning now. Once the pandemic over, China should be treated as the Cold War adversary it is.

China showed the world what not to do.

Then China showed the world that they are still capable of learning from their mistakes, and showed the world how to beat Coronavirus. Once they realised how serious this thing is, they pulled out all the stops and their new infection rate has now dropped to practically zero. Their economy is well on the way to recovery.

China covered up, failed to act, and lied. People died. China got smarter, saved a lot of lives.

Meanwhile, we have seen three basic forms of response elsewhere in the world:

1: Prompt and strong action. Examples: Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea. (Last-named took a while to get started but caught up very fast.) Result: few infections, practically no deaths.

2: Too little, too late. Examples: UK, France, Australia. Result: facing very serious risk of out of control infection with tens of thousands of deaths. Trying to catch up now, but still not doing enough. Been behind the eight ball all the way.

3: Denial, lies, and massive ineptitude. Examples: Iran, Italy, USA. Result: huge death toll. (The US is trying now to move into the second group with some serious catch-up. Maybe it's too late for that, maybe not. With so little testing in the USA, we simply do not know how bad it is there.)

"...The one welcome casualty of the coronavirus pandemic ought to be the culture wars. If it achieves nothing else, the health crisis has revealed the emptiness of leaders who manufacture nationalist fears to maintain their power. Boris Johnson now looks as out of place as a clown in a morgue. Donald Trump looks as out of luck as a cornered conman..."

Yep, got it succintly covered.

He must be doing so badly that the majority of Americans approve of the job he's doing to manage the coronavirus situation.

The Guardian is speaking to its echo chamber yet again.

This crisis is bringing about increasingly nationalistic policies and mindset in populations, a winding back of globalism and open borders nonsense. Give thanks for small blessings.
